7800Gt which one is better...

eVGA has had issues recently with 7800GT's. I do not know if this has been resolved, but eVGA offered a BIOS update to remedy the problem cards. Whether or not their current 7800GT's are shipped with this BIOS could be a gamble. Who knows how old the card NCIX has is.

I would say, XFX for this particular choice. Both have lifetime warranties, and the XFX does "look" a bit meaner if that means anything.

I would take the eVGA one because eVGA is of a higher level of quality than xfx. I have also read that eVGA 7800GTs overclock well(470/1200 range is common). I have been looking at 7800GTs myself for a few weeks and am leaning towards eVGA.

2 dif views, i was also thinking of going for the evga card;).

There was a topic about the GeForce video cards not been able to produce the shadows corectly in "Far Cry", i'm not sure if that has been sorted out but that does suck :|cause you (the buyer) are going to spend $300 to $400 on a video card and not be able to play games like the way they were ment to be played.

Please i'm not an ATI fan boy or a NVIDIA fan boy, i just want a good video card.

If any others have any info as to which video card i should take(or any other video card for that matter), please let me know.

It will be great to have some info from the "Gamer's" out there.

Thanks.

Bah, my XFX 7800GTs overclock way over 470/1200 with stock cooling. The eVGA 7800GT at the link is overclocked at 445/1070 out of the box. The XFX is overclocked at 450/1050 out of the box. eVGA cards carry a lifetime warranty, XFX's is double lifetime and of course warranties are theoretically void if you overclock anyway.

People on this forum are always posting that XFX cards are lower end than eVGA, but I've seen no evidence to support that contention.

Here is the reason: buy eVGA because if you OC it does NOT void the warranty. eVGA's new policy specifically only voids the warranty if you do physical damage to the card. Overclock it and it breaks - covered. Add a aftermarket HSF and it later breaks - covered. Hit it with a hammer - not covered.

I stand corrected on the warranty issue. Still doesn't mean that eVGA's quality is demonstrably superior to XFX.

lol, you people saying buy the one card over the other because it looks "mean" are retarded. most likely you won't even be able to see the card in the case anyway...

All these cards are just reference designs anyway, pretty sure xfx and evga are mfg at the same oem plant somewhere. When shopping its more or less the quality of the cooler and the warranty.
Most ppl seem happy with the copper cooler on the evga and if yer overclocking seriously, yer getting after market cooler anyway.
First thing ppl do when they get home is overclock it, so the fact that yer warranty is covered is a huge bonus.
If all things are the same (price bundle etc), why would you get an xfx? Its not like ive heard such great things about them anyway.
I had to make the same call last week, went with the evga.
No rebates, no cod2, 309 w/ 3 day ship included.

btw for everyone discounting the built in oc on the evga 516,517 models, with sli setups oc video cards is kind of a pia. The fact that you have guranteed sizeable oc out of the box is a huge benefit for sli.

Its oc out of the box is already higher (percentage wise) than what i got out of my 6800gt's. (As a pair not individually)

I've NEVER had an issue with eVGA...other than they didn't give me the 25 eVGA bucks without me fighting them on their 25+25 deal on my 7800GT.

As for the warranty...that's enough for me, because they also have 24/7 tech support that you can get a hold of...my BFG mobo is having issues, and their 24/7 tech support is useless...I sit on hold for over and hour and finally say fvck it.

I OC'ed the nuts off my 7800GT, and it performs like a stock 7800GTX....but 100 USD cheaper. Go eVGA...a lot cheaper than the XFX (not saying XFX is bad, they've been getting VERY good reviews, they seem to be everyone's new up-and-coming manufacturer)

I wouldn't be surprised if XFX started to make mobos....wait, I mean they took someone else's mobo, and put their name on it.

You registered at eVGA's website yet? CoD2 didn't come in box with my N516 but it has just been shipped.

eVGA now leads the way in warranties for nVidia cards, with XFX & then BFG close behind.

Personally, i would buy the XFX card, simply because it's just damn sexy, & yeah i'm sucker for attractive hardware ;)

But to anyone else, the eVGA is a better deal :p

Which BIOS issue?

Edit: this?

Apparently. Hopefully my (and anyone else's) card will come with the new BIOS. eVGA supplies new BIOSes right on their site (if you register or on forums) unlike other companies so that's another  in their direction.

Many thanks Keys for making me aware of that before it was too late.

What resolution are you experiencing the rendering issues, as I dont see any on my card @ 1280x1024!
