Do we really need ANOTHER thread on the GF7900s? Seriously, read the other ones, or just look at some benchmarks. There are some right on this site...

But basically, the 7900GT performs pretty much just like a 7800GTX.

step up if you can (evga only)

7900 gt is a tad faster than the 7800 gtx
and when you oc, you can probably reach the clocks of a 7800 512 gtx

on the other hand, the 7800 gt can can oced to 7800 gtx level but nothing more unless you voltmod

so the extra few bucks is really netting you some major performance boost

if you have an evga card and it was purchased within the last 3 months/90 days

then you can register your card online at evga.com
and through their support section, you get to step up/upgrade to whatever you want

you just have to pay for the difference in price between teh card you purchased and the price on their website

say you bought your 7800 gt for $280 and their 7900 gt is priced at $350 on their website

then you would only have to pay $70 to upgrade to the 7900 gt
but you have to show proof of receipt and send back whatever you bought in good/working condition(box, accessories, card...)

The eVGA SuperClock is way, way faster than a 7800GTX, so it's way, way faster than a 7800GT. Here's what MunkyMark06 says about F.E.A.R. performance when set at max, 4x AA/16xAF, no soft shadows.

7800GT 400/1000: 32 FPS
eVGA 7800GT 450/1100: 35 FPS
7900GT 450/1320: 42 FPS
eVGA CO SuperClock 7900GT 550/1580: 51 FPS

Be advised, however, that the SuperClock is currently Out of Stock on eVGA's website.

7900s (Both GT and GTX) will be way faster than your 7800 GT. So I would say, step-up (For almost negligible price).
But if you bought this thing only a week ago, then check if you can just return it for refund. Then buy whatever card you want.

Well my step up expires on March 15th. I have 2 7800GT's in SLI and I don't think I'll be trading up. I really wish I could, but I just don't have the money to do it. I know the differnce would be like $50, but since I spent all that on Water Cooling, I can't get the 7900's. :(

I only game at 1280x1024, so it's not like I'm missing anything though. Hopefully I'll be able to get my 7800Gt's to about 520/1300 if I'm lucky with my watercooling.

I had one 7800GT and didn't want to be down while Stepping-Up, so I ordered another one from NewEgg - they have them in stock - and will have SLI when eVGA gets their stock back in. Neat!

I think people should wait 1 month, till april i bet the 7900gt will be like $270 for good brands like evga and xfx, factory overclocked too. Normally the first week theres like price premium for people who like be first to have it.

But if i had a 7800gt i wouldnt get a 7900gt (it will be like stepping up from 7800gt to 7800gtx) unless u can step up for a small fee.

I wish I had bought my cards three days later than I did. I would have been able to step up to 7900GTs for $5 each. :p
