7800GT Vs 7800GTX when both are overclocked

Which would you guys suggest I get. How much of a performance increase would I acheive from overclocking each of these to the max with a Zalman vf-700 from the 7800GTX over the 7800GT.

I mean would it be like from 70fps to 80 or like 70 to 75 on avg?

That would vary very widely with the game and settings.

The 7800GT is certainly better bang for buck, but if youve got the cash to shell out, the GTX is the fastest by far, especially the factory OCed ones.

From what I've seen the 7800GTX is, on average, about 10fps faster on benchmarks when using a very high end CPU. Personally, since it has more pipes, I'd pick up the 7800GTX since shader processing power is going to be big in upcoming games.

yup...it all depends on your budget...i would say spend about 80 bucks more and get the GTX.

i benchmarked both my old 7800gt vs. the 7800GTC< both overclocked. Results typically were in favor of the GTX by 15%.

"Another $80" doesn't sound like much until you realize you're already spending $359+ for a video card. >_<

Get the 7800GTX if you feel you need that much power... Personally, I would pick up a 7800GT, but...

i don't know if i got lucky or not
but my evga 7800 gtx came with a core clock of 450
but i'm already ocing this card to 520 without any problem with stock cooling


when you play games like far cry @ 1600 X 1200 with hdr on
you need all the speed you can get!
even with my gtx clocked at 520...i'm still only getting 45 fps on average
but it's very playable

if ur gona shell out a ton of cash for a gt, hold out for another week or two or whatever it takes for u to save up the extra $ needed for the gtx, it'll be worth it

although i've been purchasing both ati and nvidia....lol
i think they're both good
9800 pro and x800 xt pe served me well
6800 gt and 7800 gtx's every bit just as good and better FOR NOW

According to the Anandtech review of the GT and GTX, the major differences in performance between the two cards only start appearing once you bump up the resolution beyond 1600 x 1200. And by the time a processor comes around that really taxes both cards, another faster card (GT 8800?) will be available anyway. Best bang for the buck is the 7800 GT.

that's not true
performance varies from game to game
in certain games....resolution beyond 1600 X 1200 would actually bring the gt closer to gtx in terms of performance (especially with eye candy on)

Actually, the CPU is the major factor at LOWER resolutions because that's when it is processing the most things that the CPU has to process. At higher resolutions, the GPU is the main factor

Reading that article it looks like at high resolutions and with 4x AA the GTX really pulls ahead.

yea i decided on the GTX.... i just wanna wait for real benchmarks on the R520 which will be in like a week i'm predicting and then i'm buying unless the R520 blows it away.... thanks for the help guys

Where does a X800XT PE running at 525/575 fit in against 7800GT. is the GT a worthy upgrade , which will require a pci mobo over the current agp one I have
