7800GT Temp issues

I have a VF700 on my 7800GT and I hit 70C while loading using RTHDRIBL....as soon as I pause rthdribl, my temp drops to 60, unpause a second later and the temp jumps to 70C again. This is really wierd...I don't get it. I hit 70C whether my clocks are 445/1070 or 480/1200...this just a driver/bios/hardware problem?

The case I use is a P180, WELL ventilated....room temp is around 25C.

I'm going to emphasize this: as SOON as I pause rthdribl, temps drop within less than a second...then they jump back up once I unpause (again, they jump up in less than a second.)

I'm making a thread for this rather than hijaking someone else's thread....

I had reseated....made sure there was enough....I'm pretty sure there's enough pressure too (went as tight as I could). That's why I making this post, I thought that'd fix my problem.

Bad temp monitoring?

What thermal compound? How much you using? (as in are you using too much)? You sure you installed the VF-700 right?

If you do take apart your VF-700, those thumb screws on the top and the bottom, make sure they are tightend really tight too, maby thats causing you to not have enought pressure?

(after that I really wouldn't have a clue 😛)

Not too little, maybe a little too much, but that's never cause me problems before. I use AS5, though I am seeing that ceramique is better, so I may get some of that.

I'll shut down my computer after I post this and check it all again, including the pressure on it...BUT...before I do, I have some pics you'll want to see:

-I left the time on the bottom so you could see this isn't changing.

Now, this is 15 minutes AFTER I played HL2. I touched the heatsink, and it isn't that hot. My card is saying that its idling at 57C?!?! Not a chance in hell, it idled at 43C until just now...WTF! I'm calling up eVGA methinks...RMA time??? What does everyone think???
