7800GT Reviews

Looks good.... I'm going to buy my video card today, from those results, they look pretty close (the gt and gtx) I'm wondering which one you guys think I should buy. (best value for the $$) You can get it already for $399 from monarch... Mwave and Newegg are both $449.

I wish someone would compare the 7800GT to an x800xl..... And why are HardOCPs graphs unreadable... does anyone else find them hard to look at?

The tech report has kind of a pseudo comparison here.
http://techreport.com/onearticle.x/8652
However, the benches are heavily skewed since they're using an overclocked 7800GT (450, 1050) and 512MB X800XL.

bit-tech have theirs up.....and i never knew there was a GAINWARD 7800GTX

it comes 470/1300 ... i thought they had disappeared even though they'd been bought out

the 7800GT stock doesnt seem to be all that much better than the x850xt if at all

Tech Report does.

icepik beat me to the link-

It is OCd from reference, they benched a retail board at its default settings.

Correct. It's a factory overclock. I find it interesting that the manufacturers are all jumping on the factory overclock bandwagon this time around now that BFG showed that you could sell a lot of cards that way. That proves what enthusiasts have known all along. That it's perfectly safe to overclock these parts, even if only by a modest amount.

i wonder if this thing will unlock, theres 4 pixel shaders and 1 vertex shader to unlock if you can

Guru3D seems to report the transistor counts as 302million for each chip so do you think its possible?

Cool reviews and can buy right now! Hope ATI can release r520 soon to compete.

It seems from benchmarks if your monitor like mine doesn't support extremly high resolutions only 1600X1200 then 7800 gt is a better choice than 7800 gtx for performance/price.

For e.g.
Half Life 2 1600x1200
7800GTX - 120.42
XFX7800GT - 117.76

Doom 3 16x12 4xAA / 8x Aniso
7800GTX - 61.1
XFX7800GT - 57.3

Far Cry 16x12 4xAA / 16x Ansio
7800GTX - 56.09
XFX7800GT - 52.89

Difference between GTX and GT is only few frames for people who dont have super high res monitors. Isn't the GT simply a GTX with 4 less pipelines so I dont see why it cant overclock to same core and memory speed as GTX since its basically same card.

I'm going to wait 6 months and price should drop to around $300 USD for 7800GT especially if ATI r520 is around $300.

by far the most annoying graphs are guru3d's though. wtf is with changing the color bars every other graph? one graph, orange is 7800gtx, next orange is 6800ulta sli'd, wtf...

it takes ages just to watch them shoot up.....who cares for crappy flashy graphs....just give us the numbers goddamit!

Bit-techs reviews are getting annoying now, they have ceased to provide any numbers at all, and simply quote best playable settings for each card as it appears to them. which is nice as an indicative way to give you some idea of what you can get away with, but at the same time 30FPS to them maybe smooth, while 30FPS to me could be on the brink of slideshow

This is interesting. I was thinking of going all out with a 7800GTX KO but since I am limited to a 1600X1200 rez may just pickup a pair of 7800GTs.

Stop looking at benchmarks that are cpu limited. 🙂 The 7800GT is quite a bit faster than the x850xt. The GT also offers more bang for the buck (?The Power of 3?), especially since they are on a similar pricing level.

ardOCP has the review of the BFG 7800GT OC. That thing can definitely keep pace with the 7800GTX, and for $50 less it's a great buy.

Going all out on a $550 card is a lot different than picking up a pair of GT's that will set you back $800. Why not get one GT and see how things perform instead of dropping all of that cash for a little extra eye candy?

Why? X850XT is cheaper, and since he doesn't have the best CPU (ie: 2200MHz vs the 2800 or 2600 I expect most sites are using), he shouldn't care and an overall picture is better if he wants to play current games, since for him it means a 7800GT would be overkill, and saving money by getting an X850 or 6800 might be a better idea...

I'm not sure "who" you are referring to. 😕

All that I was commenting on is otispunkmeyer's reply and I quoted it. I don't see Otis talking about anything that you just mentioned. You seem to have went off on a different tangent. 😛

Because I feel like spending money! 😉

Don't you have any other hobbies, a lady friend, or something besides a computer to spend your hard-earned cash on? You may feel like spending it now, but buyers remorse sucks. 😛
