I never gave more than $185 for a video card in my life. I always stuck with mid range stuff. But I am needing a video card upgrade and I need something to last me till August or maybe even this time next year. I know a 7800GT will out last a 6800GS(the EVGA CO Special Edition) but is it worth the extra $80 or so if I am just gonna upgrade in August? Guess the main reason I always stuck with mid range is because higher end stuff is well higher priced and after 6 months to a year it hurt to look back to see how much it cost then and costs now.

I only game at 1280x1024 with most settings on highest(no FSAA/AA) if that helps.

for $80 for the significant performance increase I'd say it's worth getting unless you're on a tight budget.

I have that card ... and after upgrading to it from a BFG 6800 GT OC I must say it was quite a leap forward..I havent had any problems running F.E.A.R, Doom3 or Call of Duty 2 all on the higest resolutions and highest graphics settings. But to keep in mind that what is new and shiney today will only be outdated in 6-8 months is just a fact of life in the pc world. So really imho it is just a matter of how bad ya want it and how soon.

Its a lifetime one, right? Does that cover overclocking?

On the eVga card, they support their warranty even if you break it, as long as it is an accident.

I would get a 7800gt, and when they become outdated, get another one and run SLI.

I have the BFG 7800 GT OC & it was a very nice upgrade from the ATI X800XL. I do see a nice boost in performance. I would say it's worth it. I would go with either the BFG or Evga cards.

Newegg carries both of these cards.

Get an eVGA stock 7800GT and overclock it yourself. Don't bother with SLI, as by the time it gets outdated, 2 will be outdated too.

Actually, do you really want an EVGA? There is an XFX 7800 gt @ Monarchcomputer.com that is being sold for around 310 shipped and has a 30 MIR. I'd go for that if I were you.

I would like to know if you play COD2 on DX9 or Dx7?

How much will a 6800GS and 7800GT be worth used in 8 months(guessing)? $100-$120/$180-200? When I upgrade I like to guess as to what they would be worth around the time I will probably be upgrading again. I resell my old stuff to help buy the new. If that price range is true with either card I go with I will be losing up to $100 so that ain't to bad. Just depends on if I want faster or not for just a bit more money. If any of this makes sense.

If that's the budget you've worked with in the past you might want to at least consider getting a X800GTO2 for $179. It'll last you a year overclocked and unclocked, but perhaps not much more then that.

Most people I hear who play COD2 are forced to play on DX7(such as I)...even at 800x600 res on DX9 I barely average 25fps on my 6600GT...I just orderd a 7800GT yesterday and i'm hoping for better framerates on DX9

I think XFX has a similar OC warranty, but eVGA's is lifetime and covers 3rd party heatsinks so if i'd bought one of them i would still have a waranty :(

i'd say go for the upgrade. i went with eVGA because of the consistently high performance in reviews and their great warranty. i'd go for the 7800GT, it will last you longer then the 6800GS and will most likely be worth more when you're ready to upgrade a new vid card.

I would do it if you do a decent amount of gaming.

Is this the one you're looking at?

That one appears to be the current best deal on a 7800GT, eh?

That's one of the best deals I've seen on a 7800GT.

Goog!egear... er i mean ZZF has great deals ;)

I love my 7800GT. It's the fastest thing I've ever owned. Voltmodded it (very easy), overclocked it to 510/1180 (crashes when mem is any higher), and I get 8200 in 3dmark05. I would say it was defenetly worth the extra money :).

P.S. If you don't play with any AA or AF now, wait until you expierence your games with 16x transparency adaptive supersampling AA and 16xAF at playable framerates (~20FPS in COD2 @ 1600x1200), and you'll never go back.

stick with the 7800gt. the card hasn't dropped much in price in the past few months (neither has the 6800gs) so you won't lose that much more money but the money lost will be well worth the performance increase
