7800gt Power lead?

I installed this card in my PC after reading the instructions which didn't mention that it required the Y-Splitter power lead to be plugged into card for the 3D to function correctly!

I have plugged the lead in and attached one power connector from the PSU to it I assumed it doesn't need a second power lead connecting to the second plug? Is this a through plug?

P.S. Running it without this corrupted my 200Gb Backup drive which had data from two PCs I have just built 🙁😱
