7800GT now

I want to build a new PC, probably 3800+ X2/1GB RAM etc.
All I have to decide on is the mobo/gfx card. If I buy it *soon* (like maybe within a week), I'll get probably nForce 4 and a 7800GT, but then ATi might release something better/same price or equal/cheaper price which would also suite a Crossfire board.
Obviously I *could* wait the ~2 or so supposed weeks until there might be an ATi launch (paper or not I don't care, as numbers would help me make my decision to delay the build), or I can get it a lot sooner and make myself happier by having bought a shiny new PC.
So should I wait and see what ATi come out with, or get a 7800GT now and then whatever happens with ATi will happen?

don't wait for ATI
by the time they release a new GPU your whole computer will be out of date anyways!

I'd say now and jump on that EVGA deal while it's still around. 7800GT + SLI nForce 4 mobo. It's a win-win situation. :)

What is another couple of weeks? You'll be kicking yourself if ATI does come out with a better card, or if the 7800GT you want drops in price due to new competition.

I'd stick with Nvidia, in my humble opinion, ATI doesn't seem to be doing anything right now. Don't get me wrong, ATI makes great products, but I personally prefer Nvidia.

as of right now W8t..... Sounds like the RS520XL will be released early september. Thats September 15th at the latest. 1 month isn't that bad. The XL is supposed to be the lowest model, so if the price is around the GT and performs better, then get that. If the GT is cheaper, and performance is similar, get the GT. If the XL performs better but is way more expensive, get the GT.

Wait for the new ATI cards, unless you're satisfied with substandard image quality in your games.

You should wait a bit. Prices on the GT haven't really dropped much yet and it seems 2-3 weeks isn't so bad a wait for such a substantial investment.

aah, the age old (since ati announced r520) decision, wait for r520, or get 7800. I would say wait, and see what ATI has to offer, if it's not good, then get nvidia because by then they will have a whole new line of cards out and you can get one of them.

Wait for sure since next gen Nvidia is barely out and ATI is on the verge of releasing. Prices are still up in the air.
You can get the rest and use your old vid card for a while.

If ATI gave a solid release date for these chips, i would say wait. But they still haven't given a solid release date. By the time they get it out, if it is better, simply sell your current graphics card. Right now, i would bite the bullet and buy the GT.

I just contacted Nvidia about such shimering effects. They replied with like this:

Thank you for your email. We have received reports regarding this shimmering effect. Our next driver release will contain a fix for this problem.

And with new 80 drivers coming, and just how much less power, and heat produced my such beast, i would go for the 7800GT.

Only if someone lets me use an AGP card and then go to a PCIe card with the same "rest" :p
nVidia does have transparency AA though, and in the future if I do feel a need to improve performance I could get a second 7800GT for SLi.
