7800GT now or wait a month?

Here's my dilemma: I'm putting together a new pc within the next month. I've got a few components, but still have most of my stuff to get. I wanted to get a video card last--1 month after ati came out w/ its new stuff to see which way I wanted to go. I really don't want to spend more than $300 and have a chance to get in on the Dell BFG 7800GT OC for ~$315 (~$285 after MIR).

My question is this: If I wait a month to see how the X1800XL turns out, do I have any chance of picking up the 7800GT at that price again (if I decide to go that way) or should I jump on it now?? Any chance the ati will fall to around that price range by that time?

This will go along w/ an X2 3800+ (will try to OC it--first time OCer!), 2GB RAM and a Dell 2405 (that I'll get once it drops below $700). I want the most future-proof system I can get since I don't plan on doing any major upgrades for a good 3 yrs--I know that sounds like a stretch, but I've currently got a 1.4 ghz celeron, 384 mb of pc100 and a gf4 4200ti so I've learned to live w/out bells and whistles!

Thanks!

Considering that 7800 GTs are about the price of 6800 GTs I dont think you're going to see much more price drop til another line is released.

I say jump on it now. Don't wait for the X1800XL potentially turning out to be good. Make your buying decision on what is right in front of you. Things change daily in this industry, so that's the only way to go.

For instance, I couldve waied 2 more months for the x1800.... but then id just wait 2 more for the r580...

I mean gimme a break, ATi's kept us waiting long enough.

Well if you can get it on the bfg 7800 deal at dell. That is a killer one. $296 or so after rebate. (expires in a couple days)

The evga one is decent too. IF bought from zzf or newegg, i think would come to around $300.

I would say, theres alot of new games coming out, it depends if you game or not of course(although who buys a 7800gt that doesnt game), just jump on it now. Prices will drop, but isnt that how the story always goes? New things come out, prices drop. Rinse and repeat.

Personally, I'd take the cheaper 7800gt, because it's still a great card. It's not likely that the x1800xl prices will be that low anytime soon.

Joining the crowd on the 7800GT. Even if the XL were to drop to GT prices, the GT may still be the better option. I think the fact that no ATi FanBois seem to be advocating the XL in these threads is proof enough that the GT is a nice buy ;)

Thanks for the replies--I hate to get it now when I still have so much other stuff to get, but it looks like a pretty good deal. I don't imagine the GTX will be anywhere close to that price in a month anyways

The 7800GT seems to perform on par or better than the X1800XL, so i'd say jump on that deal :)

You just waist your time if you wait and you dont get anything out of it. Get it now.

I got it--thanks for the unanimous decision--I just need everything else to go around it now!
