I'm setting up my rig and i'm going with a DFI Ultra-D mobo and I'd like to get a 7800 gt. Now the cost at the moment is about $350 pricewatch. I've been hearing rumors that the next gen ATI cards are coming out from Sept through November. Should i wait until the ATI's come out which makes me think the 7800 will lower in price at that time, or will the price difference not be very significant? I dont mind waiting a few weeks but a couple months is pretty ridiculous unless the price difference will be substantial. What are some thoughts and recommendations ?

wait; if ATI's cards rock prices will drop all around as there will be viable competition, plus you'll be certain to know that you're buying the best whatever that may be.

Another vote for wait. Might as well let ati and nvidia start their battles again and get the card even cheaper.

If you knew for sure the ATI card in the range you want would be available within a couple of weeks, I'd say wait too. The downside I see here is that there's already been quite a wait. Then there's the question of how long til the ATI card is released and realistically available. Then how long (I think) ATI will keep the cards' prices artificially inflated to milk the fanbois who won't buy anything but ATI, before dropping the prices to sensible levels.

Patience will always pay off in these situations, but how much do you realistically think you'll be saving when you pull the trigger? Fifty bucks tops? How upset will you be if you do wait two more months to save those $50 (or less) to end up at the 7800 GT-level performance you were aiming for all along?

Overall I'd say wait too though, depending on your circumstances. The upgrade bug is overwhelming though when it kicks in. Depends on if your current gaming performance is "Wish it were better" or "Tearing my hair out here!" The 7800 rollout was so smooth, I think ATI has to at least try to match it. Good luck man.

i doubt ATI would have something to beat the GT for under $330 although theres no harm in waiting for another week or so.
