Was just browsing around, and the 7800GT is out at monarchcomputer.com. The eVGA model is $399 plus $7 shipping.........good deal

Looks good to me

Could have been cheaper though. It is faster than the 6800 Ultra and even faster than the 6800 Ultra SLI in many situations.

7800GT will be a great upgrade option once it falls into the $300-$350 range, but for now, it's best just to spend the extra moola for the GTX. Lower res users, like myself (1280x1024 LCD) would still do fine with a 6800GT, which according to Anand as fallen below $300

You are all complaining about the $399 price, but rember, this outperforms the 6800 Ultra.

EDIT: and it also has cineFX 4.0, whereas the 6800 Ultra has cineFX 3.0.

just we are remembering the times when the fastest cards cost 200-300 dollars

when 150 was mid range

when sub 100 was cheap

And when gas was under $1.50/gallon in many US cities. ;)

Try a week or two. The 7800GTX dropped from $600 to sub-$500 in a matter of weeks. I think we'll be seeing mid-$300 prices shortly on the 7800GT.

Haha, I surely hope so. It's quite tempting to switch to PCI-E.

Yeah, but the 6800GT was very cheap at introduction, then prices increased. Some people got 6800GTs in the ~$300 range within days or a week of introduction, but it didn't come back to that price point for 6 months.

There is some precident either way.

No AGP? Hello McFly! We want our AGP and MTV.

Can't complain about the X850XT-PE other than the OUTRAGEOUS noise it makes when rebooting. Reminds me of some servers.

I would never pay 400 USD for a vid card. It'll just get outdated like the 9800 Pro, or perhaps like the most famous one, the Geforce 4 Ti 4600 128mb DDR. 128-bit memory interface. Who bought this card? Because I got it for 70 USD at a surplus.

I think there was a hot deal from Dell that had this card at $332. Take off 5% for DPA and Fatcash and you have a pretty darn cheap card!
