Hi,

I am using an evga 7800GT with a Zalman 700-Cu. After installing the Zalman I had the driver detect the highest overclock setting. Which it detected 480/1.4. So I decided to play some DOD Source and after 30 seconds of game play I started to get artifacts galore and my screen got all messed up. So I finally got back to my desktop and set my speeds back to stock. I then tried DOD Source again and I saw a few artifacts here and there. I?m wondering if I messed something up when I put the Zalamn on because I was clocked at 470/1.3 with the stock cooler on with out any problems before I added the Zalaman.

lol

temps are at 44

I noticed when I opened the case that a ram sink fell off. This was before all this happened. Could that have caused damage?

oh lol $ 290. So DFI charging a 100 extra for japanese capacitors. I don't see any difference in board layout, may be added C's but overall, thats a Rip-off.

That would be my first guess. 1400Mhz is a heck of an OC! Back that down to 1200 and go from there.

Sometimes if the glue on those RAMsinks is old, they will not adhere worth anything. I had to arctic silver epoxy mine on from a new kit that had probably been on the shelf at Microcenter for quite some time. Running at 1400Mhz and no cooling (besides extra air flow I suppose) on the RAM, you'll be lucky if you didn't fry the RAM.

actually, they run so cool you really don't even need sinks if you have good airflow. I bench with mine @ 1389mhz, game @ 1351mhz, and they barely get warm to the touch.

but if those speeds are at stock volts, that's pretty amazing. Must have gotten 1.6ns chips somehow.

Interesting. Do gddr3 memory chips run so cool? I assumed that memory chips was the main cause in heat failures from my own observation in a poor contact spot with a memory chip.

Or a combined hs which covers both the core and memory chips may be bad since memory chips run cool anyway.

I have a Vf700-cu and am using the sinks/cheap adhesive that came with it. I always assumed the same thing, but apparently the best cooling for DDR3 is no sinks with a 120mm fan blowing right on them. I tried a vdimm of 2.45v for a few minutes and they started getting pretty warm. I've found that my max core speed is temp-dependant, but my max mem speed is always exactly 1389mhz. hitting the wall because I reached the max of the vram, and not from heat as I had always suspected.
