Is there any review that shows how much of a impact processors are on games? Like they use a high end video card and start with a low end processor all the way to a highend to see how much fps you get?

i dunno of any reviews detailing those specific configs, but i know that it's best to maximize your gpu and then spend less on your cpu for a gamer. a 7800gt + used athlon 64 3000+ for like $120 is a good start. if you wanna buy new, get an opteron 144.

If you read Anandtech's reviews about their games and how the newer GPU's effect it, you can see that the GPU does play a big part in how many FPS you can get in your games.
So... in that case, if you are gaming, and want the best from your system in games, it would be best to go with a low end cpu like the opteron 144 and then buy a 7800gt.
But, if you are going to be working on it (like programming, animation, etc.), some may prefer going the dual core option, with something like the opteron 165 + a 6800gs. It helps cpu utilization, but then the FPS drops slightly or significantly depending on how many FPS you think is significant. But then, you can always SLi the 6800gs if you get an SLi mobo and then have better performance with the 7800gt in some games, depending on the drivers and if the game can also use SLi.

Tell us your budget!

My budget is to spend as least as possible but still get a 7800GT. I'm already getting a AMD 3200+ for a good price, so the rest is what I need.

My current pc is a

Amd 2500+ Barton
80 Gig harddrive and 300 Gig
768 megs of ram
Geforce 4 4200
Dvd Burner
Crappy CRT monitor
Crappy Case ( I'm not reusing it)

not sure whatthe vidoe card si though

Thanks!

Here is my Idea so far...

EVGA 7800GT 289.00 - 20 dollars rebate

Spire Computer Case - 21.00

Enermax 400 watt PSU - 78.99

Corsair 1Gb @ 3200 - 82.00

EPOX SLI MOTHERBOARD - 109.00

614.00 total shipped - 20 dollar rebate

Or I could not get SLI and get a Asrock motherboard for 70 dollars, then reduce a price on a PSU? I see SLI as a future benefit so this is why I choose it.

SLI is only a good idea if you're buying SLI from the start (or within a few months of purchase) for the most part.

I agree on bobs comment on SLI. And if you want to go SLI you definately need to up the PS, I would recommend at least the Enermax 485, great PS I have one

If SLI doesn't interest you just get the EP9NPA+ Ultra

Agreed with the SLI comments. EP9NPA+Ultra for the non-sli win.

You can go cheaper with the PSU very easily, the Fortron 450 or the ePower Puma II are both quality for price. Wouldn't recommend either of those for SLI if you decide to go that route.

Look into a case with better cooling, unless you want to mod that one yourself. Check out this list of cases, they all have a 120mm fan mount and are under $50.

My thoughts.

-Get a 500w, since 7800gt's suck juice, get an antec neoHE 500w.
-Drop the mobo, get the 7800gt/eVGA mobo combo for $330 AR at ZZF

Doesn't seem like you're going to overclock, but it's best to be on the safe side.
