What should they be at?

1 GB ram,
Athlon FX 53
7800 GT

I already know I can't put textures on high...but what else? Even with texture on med, and 2xAA, I still get jerkyness (just a bad patch for BF2 right now?!)

Forceware 81 from guru3d.

With everything set to high BattleField 2 will use more then a gig.

I think I had both of the lighing settings at Med and sound as well. that should free up some ram and still look pretty good

Well, for my computer I was HOPING for near full max settings at 1280x1024....but with that (minus textures) I still get lag...I put most all to medium, save geometry and texture filter, which I have on high, and 4xAA with no lag on dalian plant singleplayer.

But can I peg any other those up another notch?? Will it even make a difference?

Only thing I can say is for you to do some trial and error to find what settings work best for you.

It's a pain but it will be worth it not to lag in a fire fight. :)

for my gtx...i can put everything on high except for texture (on medium) with
1600 * 1200 with 4aa
so for your gt....i don't see why you can't do 1280x1024 with 4aa and everything on high except for texture

i had this prob so i rma my gt because i would get 25-30fps average on 1024*768 with lighting and textures on medium. Something was seriously wrong and i changed everything so i just mailed my gt to evga.

online games you can lag from 20 different things bf2 is also code heavy, and a full server , it goes on and on, lm on 2 gigs ram l run a 4400+ dual and an fx55 with 2 gigs ram, at max settings online you WILL get lag spikes. FACT cant be stopped, then server lag, pc lag ,latency if you run an AGP slot card , bla bla bla forever, it never ends really how many people have a dedicated bf2 pc that cant do anything else, l dont so even with the best of systems lag will always be around especially online.

You NEED 2 Gig to run this game smoothly on HIGH regardless of video card power.

The game will look amazing, both videocard and CPU have oodles of power to make BF2 run amazing, but 2GB is necessary, I made the jump to 2GB from 1GB just for this game... MASSIVE DIFFERENCE, no looking back!!!!!

1280x1024, HIGH, 4xAA, 8xAF.

I have a 3700+ w 7800gt and it runs fine............ Just make sure you odn't have too many apps open and 1 gb will be fine... 2gb will give u ab oost, but u won't be dead with1gb.

I get jerkyness only when I have FF and IE and Outlook and AIM openand I'm alttabbing b ack and forth. With BF2 alone, there's a lmost 0 jerking.

I was dead with 1GB.. load times were measurable in years, and at the beginning of each map it would lag so much for the first few minutes I did not have a chance. with 2GB I can just hop into the game and play.. I rate 1GB as almost unplayable.. if you are patient, its fine, but 2GB is massive improvement.

Well, everyone in here seems to have a 7800GT or better, so please allow me to chime in with a less-powerful card

I'm running an Athlon64 3000+ Venice, 2GB Crucial Value RAM, and a Sapphire X800GTO2 modded to X850XT PE. I run everything on max settings (yes, even textures, lighting, etc.) and 4x AA at 1280x1024 res, and I get about 40-65FPS which is still very playable for me.

As you can see, my system is weaker than yours in terms of CPU and video card, but I have twice the RAM, so I guess you might want to try to get at least 1.5GB of RAM? I do get the occasional jerkiness, but I think its due to the lag. Plays very smoothly 99.9% of the time on 48+ player maps, with the occasional 1-2second jerkiness

Good luck solving your problem!
