I want to play Bioshock with mostly high settings and currently my system just can't keep up. In the demo at 1024x768 it's a laggy mess, and even with lowest everything is is barely passable. I might be an FPS snob... but I just can't play the game at 15-30FPS and be happy.

I have the following:

X2 3800+ @ 2600mhz
2GB DDR
7800GT
1680x1050 Widescreen monitor
DFI NF4
150GB Raptor
X-FI

Is it worth it to upgrade to a 8600GTS? I really want a 9xxx series card, but don't want to wait until December to play Bioshock. If I get a 8600 in the meantime will it even be faster? I figure I can sell my old card and make back most of the money.

He's right on, the only noticable upgrade for you would be the 8800GTS 320MB or higher card. The 8600GTS is only a sidestep from what you have.

I run Bioshock on a 7900 GS at 1680x1050. All I had to do to make it run smooth 98% of the time was turn off real time reflections. Sure it isn't the all on High settings anymore but most of it is.

I'm using a 7800GT card in Bioshock at 1680x1050 settings, runs smooth as silk ,I did turn down some options like like real time reflections, shadow maps.

If you are going to upgrade I think 8800GTS will be your best bet, also the latest beta drivers 163.44 help too.

Whats the rest of your system like? @ 1680x1050 with everything on low the game is not close to "smooth as silk." I also am already running the beta drivers.

I only play games that I can have ALL SETTINGS on HIGH... and if that means I can only play Minesweeper so be it! LOL I just don't understand some people. PS I have a 7900GS also... Trell what is your 3DMarks score?

Oh yea don't waste your money on a 8600GTS unless you get it from EVGA and then use their "step up" program in three months to get a 9xxx. thats your best bet and you lose a lot less money. Good luck

Vista x64 with 4GB ram and X2 3800+ ,no problems with FPS oh and V sync is off too.
