Way to read the article. If you had paid attention, you'd have noted that they SPECIFICALLY stated that's what they were working on. Kris and crew have it well in hand.

5150Joker,
I will answer your question quick... Nope

All new nvidia GPU have a new protection/method so such things do not happen anymore.

This new method are on all 7800's, 6600s(A3+), 6800(nv42).

Unless the author of rivatuner has found a magic loop hole lately than i do not think it will happen.

*edit* one of the methods are actually cutting the pipe (physically) with a laser.

Comment away....

My thought is overclocked performance, if it's based on the G70 and G70PCB it'll probably easily OC to 450 or so.....which I imagine would put it in good competition with the X1800XL...

Wish I knew what you are talking about. The Xl at default is around 5-8% faster with any AA on. This coupled with the XL being a great over clocker sorda kill the GS.

If you're replying to my post, where do they state in the article that they are working on unlocking the pipelines? I glanced through it and didn't see it mentioned.

Yeah if that's true then it sucks not having software unlocks anymore.

I'm just saying if it also overclocks well then for the price most people are willing to sacrifice 5% especially if this thing came out at $299US...it was just a thought you dont have to jump all over my back about it...

I mentioned it in another thread. Even if it does unlock, however, this is an engineering sample so it may not completely represent what the retail cards do.

Gotcha. He mentioned the article specifically and I didn't see it say anything about that in there.

The 7800GS looks to be a fine part, especially if it falls in the $250-$300 range. (The 7800GT can be had for $299.99 with rebate right now.) My one question Kris is how does it o/c? It seems that the core speed has been kept deliberately low at 325MHz. We know that the GT and GTX are clocked faster, so the GS (375/500) should clock near the GT speeds (430/500) at least.

I'm happy, this card looks like it'll come in right at the price point I want, hopefully it comes out before I get my rig at christmas, no matter it looks like a great card, props to nVidia

Well looking at the benchmarks makes me really want to spend the extra $50 for a 7800GT.(Assuming GS retails for $250. If I could buy one for $220-$230 I would probably jump on it.
