7800 life expectancy?

How long do you think the 7800 GTX and GTs will be around before next generation cards come out? Any ideas? Or does anyone know when/if 512mb versions are coming out soon?

You guys are in the wrong forum- you should be in the "Time Travellers Offering Advice From the Future" forum?

In other words, there is no possible answer to your question. No one knows what will seem acceptable to you in the future, and know one knows what games will require.

Although Dug mocks me by having it in his signature, it was true then, and it's true now: You can't upgrade for future games. By what serves your needs now, because in the future, what you buy now will seem lame. Get used to the idea of spending $400-$500 a year on cards if you want to stay current.

Thats exactly right and its been proven time and time again.
If you run 1600x1200, get what runs your favorite games at that res.. dont overbuy for tomorrow as you will be sorely disappointed when SLI 6800GTs are matched by 1 GTX (or enter future hypothetical cards in place of those), yet still have superior AA/AF/Purevideo.

I bought my current rig for Doom3. And I can push 16x12 in Quake 4, but its pushing it. I think even at 1600x1200 (no AA/AF) I want more than a 6800GT.

A single 7800GT or GTX is truley king of the hill. The speed and availability of those cards are really causing a first round knockout to ATI.

And we'll see in a year in the Valve surveys 😀 ... if ATI doesnt go under first.
