I need a new graphics card, but dont want to spend too much because i dont game very much. The ones that fit my price range are the x1600 and 7600 (nvidia), but im wondering what one will yeild better performance? and should i get the GT, GS, XT, etc... versions? i think i should be fine with 256mb.

second question: when playing battlefield, i want to view the game in 1024x1280 (i have a 1600x1200 screen), but i dont want to strech it or have it pop up in a window, i want it to be in the center of the screen with just black around. How do you do that?

If you are going to get a card from the X1600 series, I would settle for nothing less then the X1650XT. The X1600XT and X1650PRO just aren't worth the pricetag IMO. If you can't afford the $150 price tag for the X1650XT, then I would stay with the 7600GT, as it is faster then any of the other X1600 cards. I am a big ATI fan, but the X1600XT in my parent's computer just lacks in performance. If you want to play in a lower resolution without scaling, then you need to go into the video driver's control panel and look for the scaling options. Some LCD monitors can also provide hardware scaling.

Thanx for the help. The X1650 XT is actually cheaper than the 7600 GT over here (switzerland), is the ati a better card? (im also kinda an ati fan, i enjoy supporting the underdogs. AMD forever)

EDIT: I need some more help with the scaling. I opened the ati control panel and went to the help, where it said to go to monitor properties > attributes > image scaling, but there is not image scaling option. What am i missing? do i require a DVI cable for it to work (i havnt got my but in action yet to get a DVI cable, am still runing off that blue analoge one)

I ended up getting the 7800 GTX. dont have a motherboard that will fit it yet though. Can anyone tell me how i should use the molex or whatever to pci cable? this picture http://www.hardocp.com/images/articles/1122918967EjWXALxj1U_1_12_l.jpg

Should i connect two different molex connectors to the pci one or what? why isnt one sufficient?

PS: can that s-video in cable enable video recording on my computer from a tv for example? in which case does anyone have a spare one that i could buy off them??
