Hardware.fr has a possible pic of the 7800 GTX. Although it looks like it might be a single slot design, the card looks rather long.

Interesting. Looks long, but not really longer than the current 6800GT/Ultra, from what I can tell. I would certainly prefer a single slot cooling solution though. :)

who cares about how long it is...as long as its single slot.
theres no way to say whether that picture is legitimate or not

Considering most new motherboards allow for video cards to take up more than one slot, length is now more of a deterrent than how many slots it takes up. But whatever. I'm more considered with how my card performs than how it looks.

Actually, I care. In my previous case, I actually had to uninstall the card before I could remove my harddrives (some antec tower). That to me is a design flaw.

My French is very rusty but I think the article said the card is 2-3cm longer than the 6800GT\Ultra.

Hmmm... wonder if that's legit... in other speculation news, I hope nV doesn't go from Dusk to Dawn to the mermaid to this guy as their mascott. Not that the mascot matters much, but I don't want a video card with some tubby dude on it.

Edit: on second look, he isn't even just some tubby dude, but the miscievous lookin' sort. :)

it would look pretty much like a 6800 with a power connector and single slot design (well maybe not for the gtx) but cool pic anyway (just a 6800 edited)

I'm concerned about length b/c I plan on getting an nForce4 Ultra or SLI board rather soon, and if you replace the noisy chipset fans on a lot of these boards with a Zalman NB47J, you have to watch out for your card's length and the height of some of the components that stand up off the card's PCB.

I would personally rather have a shorter card with a dual slot than a long card and single slot. I use up 1 PCI slot as it is so I could really give a crap if a dual slot solution can cool better. I personally swap out the cooler for an after market anyways so I guess that doesn't really matter. As for the card being longer, that just plan sucks. I barely had any room with my 6800GT between the HDD's and it even in a decent sized Chieftec Dragon case... If this thing is 2-3 cm LONGER there is like no way it is going to fit.

LOL!

As far as the picture of the card goes... Is it just the angle of the shot, or is it missing the SLI connector at the top? If so, wouldn't that indicate that this is either a "vanilla" 7800 or a GT, and not the GTX? Of course, provided that the pictures are in fact of a G70 card.

They may have moved the SLI connector so you can't try to SLI a 7800GTX with a 6 Series card.

Yeah, it looks like they moved it towards the middle of the card. If you look you can see where the black part of the heatsink has been cut out. I'm guessing it resides there.

Who cares if its single slot? Much more interested in noise and power use myself. All reports say this will be a great card and kill the current selection.

Yes, I'm concerned especially about power as well. Noise might not be such a factor as I'm sure Zalman or someone will intro quiet coolers for these cards (assuming the current VF700's won't work). I read on the Inquirer that nVIDIA asked the PCI-SIG to provide even more power for the 7800. Then again, it is the Inquirer. I'm actually more interested in whatever the midrange series will be (7600 or something) and whether or not any cards in this new generation will be WGF compliant.

Dude! I'm planning to mount a big ol' case fan on the extra space of my giant PCB!
