7800 GTX 512mb countdown...

Im using my eVGA step-up program to trade up for it on Nov 14th 😀

Anyone else?

Also this would be a great place for you to post results once you have one 😛

MORPH< Unless you plan to say "w00t 7800 GTX 512mb!" you can keep comments in your head and off the board 🙂

I currently have SLI 7800GT's, but would like to run a single card for lower noise/heat/power use. Also the little quirks of an SLI setup are a pain sometimes, but I'm definitely going to wait until they have reviews out.

does anyone know if the price for the 256mb 7800gtx is going to drop due to the new 512mb version that came out? I also have the step-up program and want to trade my 6800gt's in.

If that is the price and the clocks are correct then count me in as well. My trade up ends on the 15th however.

Sorry, but I expect the price of the current GTX to stay the same. I assume this due to the 512MB GTX having its own sky high price point, like in another category of its own.

I will buy it if it has fallen to around $550 at the end of the year, but otherwise a 7800GT SLI setup for $630 or so would be a lot more appealing.

I have no current plans to, the 7800GTXs are doing fine for me.

If I were considering a $500+ single card right now, it would be the ONLY card I would consider.

I'll be a user, but I'll be doing some harsh comparisons between it and the X1800XT before I make final decision. You'll see the comparisons when I have both.

I'm not giving this round to nVidia yet (yes, I wasn't wholely impressed with the X1800XT scores, either), until I'm able to see viable comparisons, whether by my own hand, or by a reputable site.

My GTX just died and i voided my warrenty so i'll be buying a new card soon. This 512MB GTX and its ATi equivilent have got my eye. I do however feel a little put off from nvidia this been my first video card to break. However if this is true about the 550Mhz core and 1800Mhz memory i might just give them one more try.

Is there any info on how much of a performance increase the 512mb will have over the 256mb? Other differences between the cards besides ram? I'm looking to upgrade by the end of the year. Thx

im gonna sell half my current rig (agp mobo and 6800gt @ ultra and ocz PSU) when it dropps below 525 and probaly grab 2 of em and a shiny new psu+mobo. thatll make one hell of a neat college rig 😀

Depends on the clocks (obviously 😛). 550/1800 should be about 10-20% faster than the 490/1300 7800GTX cards currently out there (like the eVGA "KO" model). If it's more like 500/1600... maybe 5-10% faster than the top-of-the-line 256MB ones.

The big difference is that they're supposed to be using 1.1ns GDDR3 on these cards, which would make them the first video cards with this RAM (the X1800XT uses 1.26ns GDDR3). That's why they're talking 800-900Mhz (1600-1800Mhz DDR) on the RAM.

There are also some rumors that NVIDIA has tweaked the core designs for better overclocking (much like ATI did with the 9800XT compared to the 9800Pro), but it's too early to know if there will be any differences there, or what effect they would have.

So you've already decided to upgrade to a card for which you don't yet know the specs, performance or even price? Wow, Nvidia doesn't have to do much to sell something to you, do they? I need about 1,000 customers like you for my business.

edit: typo

Would you get the 512mb even if the gt's outperform it ? I have a gt now but have been thinking about adding another for sli. But now the 512 is coming and I could still use my
step-up. Although it would cost me about $200 to do this.

I find it highly unlikely that a pair of GTs will outperform the 512MB GTX, if the clock speeds fall in line.
