Nobody asked this yet, but what kind of resolutions are you playing at? You need to play at least at 1600*1200 to take advantage of SLI, because there is some CPU overhead from using SLI, and at lower resolutions it's normal for the SLI systems to be slower than single cards of the same class.

3dmark05 is GPU-limited even at 1024 resolutions, and your score seems in line with what you should be getting, so I don't think there's any problem with your cards or drivers.

Welcome to CPU limited benchmarks, my friend.

did you miss the part where he says his venice is overclocked to 2.75ghz? in anand's article when he introduces the 7800, he is "only" using an fx55. here is the link to him comparing doom3:

http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2451&p=9

anand gets better results in SLI, which should be expected. now lets compare the two cpus

fx55 - 2.6ghz/1mb cache vs venice 2.75ghz/512cache

does the lack of 512 cache limit his cpu? i highly doubt it. of course ram and timings is a variable here, but not enough to make sli worse than one gtx, unless u got like 256 or 512 or something.

what it probably is is something settings related or driver related. try updating to 77.77. i found those to be better than the official ones (i think 77.56)

and of course, latest bios, latest chipset, yada yada

it is much more likely a setting somehwere

No, I didn't, but thanks for being an ass. As you can see by my sig, I think I've got a better grasp on the situation than you, as I run an SLi 7800GTX with an FX55 @ 3GHz on a daily basis.

i saw how u had a flame war with bouzouki from another thread. i wasnt sure who started it, but now im starting to get an idea...

i dont see how i was being an ass, but i think you certainly proved that you are one.

edit: oh btw, im not impressed with ur rig at all.

I don't care whether you're impressed or not. I don't build my computers to impress others. Your comments were inflammatory, and implied that what I said was inaccurate. My point was very simple. You were wrong, as literally dozens of reviews have proven.

what you said WAS inaccurate in a sense. i know that supposedly video cards nowadays are cpu limited in most situations, but you should be able to tell that he has driver issues by seeing his sli scores for 3dmark01 and aquamark with his cpu speed. maybe you just didnt bother since you have such a nice "grasp" of the situation  with your reasoning all those rich execs must be expert mechanics too since they have such a nice grasp of the situation since they own exotic cars

anyways you really need to lighten up and stop ASSuming that my reply was inflammatory towards you.

i have a 7800gtx too and i have a dual core 4400+ @ 2.8ghz and i also had a 4200+ @ 2751mhz so i know his scores were off, and not "cpu limited" ESPECIALLY since he was in sli mode and i only have one 7800

That would be a good starting place. I'd also use Driver Cleaner Pro Edition:

1. Download it from here (bottom of page has DL link)
2. Uninstall your nVidia video drivers (Control Panel > nVidia Drivers > click ONLY Video drivers,
....otherwise you wipeout the chipset ones, too
3. Reboot into safe mode and use Driver Cleaner to fully wipe out the driver
..a) hit cancel when Windows prompts you to install the driver for your video cards (twice).
..b) Run Driver Cleaner and select 'nVidia' (NOT nForce, nVidia WDM, or nVidia stereo) from the dropdown box, then click Start
..c) reboot into Windows
4. Click Cancel when prompted to install the driver for your video cards (twice)
5. Install the nVidia drivers
6. Reboot and retest

Google is your friend. It's a CPU limited setup. End of story. Stop arguing fact.

here i highlighted this from my post for you.

if you read my first post, i pointed out to where anand got faster results with a "slower" fx55 vs his 2.75 venice in doom3 in sli

the op got slower results in doom3 in sli with a faster chip. its driver related.

you probably dont like reading though since you have such a firm grasp on the situation

okthx

Just a question, why did you re-install the drivers you were having issues with? 77.77 is an official release.

okthx...wow, you told me. lol

You still don't get it, and I'm tired of wasting my time trying to explain it to you. Go argue with yourself. ;)

cich1012, did you try your benches/games yet? How did it all turn out?

Oh, and Ronin and chinkgai, stop arguing with each other. Besides the fact that neither of you is going to concede on this, your exchanges just make you look RETARDED. If you don't care about that, please think of the KITTENS

i love how no one is answering his question. thats why i almost never come to the video forum. anway, its obviously not his cpu. its running faster than an fx55. its not his amount of ram. it seems like it has to be drivers. if 77.77 doesnt work, try an older one. like 71.89.

hey aquila, my benchmarks in game are either the same or better with one card running as.

doom fps is the same
farcry i get better FPS with one card than 2.. and the settings are the same.

my power supply is only running on one rail...12v pushing 26a i here..so maybe thats it..

it says its a 620 watt by skyhawk, but from reviews they got busted for advertising on the box that it was 2 12v rails with combined 40amps. But its not so

so tommorow im buying this powersupply

how was i NOT answering his question? i told him it was driver related in my first post, did i not? i even provided evidence with a link...

it was genius ronin that gave me sh!t for it and his only real "argument" was he's smarter and his support was to tell me to use google. he provided zero evidence for his claims. we all already know that we're pretty cpu limited nowadays, but he thinks that is the OP's ONLY problem when its obviously not. he's a mor0n that couldnt really prove what i said was incorrect and has stuck to the "nope your wrong im right" stand this whole time. after not bein able to prove my point incorrect, he just says "okay im going to stop wasting my time" cuz he knows he's an idiot.

Yeah, apparently the 7800 has great throttling capability to not eat up power when idle, but if the PSU can't supply enough, the card will definitely underperform. You may want to try the 77.77 driver for the hell of it, though. Follow the instructions in my earlier post for best results.

Honestly, both Antec PSU's I owned have had weak voltages on 12V rails under load. I would recommend this for a PSU instead:
Enermax SLI 535W
This one has dual vid card power connectors and dual rails, so you're good to plug and go. I have the 495W version and it's flawless.
