7800 GS and Everquest I

I recently got a EVGA factory overclocked 7800 GS and when playing EQ the sky has been getting these rectangle blocks of white. I have all the settings maxed out and I am wondering two things.

1.) Are those white blocks just big artifacts?

2.) Or is it because I am putting too much stain on the card?

Thanks,

I have the newest non beta driver from NVIDIA. Haven't tried another driver yet.

My case has good air flow and if it was overheating wouldn't I get problems in other areas of the screen than just the sky?

The rectangular blocks are common artifacts. Just to be sure, check your temps with nvtune (I think it has hardware monitoring) or rivatuner. I had an x800xl that got the checkerboard effect, even at stock, due to a poorly mounted heatsink. If your temps. are fine, I would look to the drivers next.

That's a pretty old title. Expect to see glitches that will never be fixed when running older stuff; the driver teams spend their time fixing issues with newer games still in their retail lifecycle and don't much care if they break older ones in the process. No one is trying to make much money off the old games any more and the squeaky wheels get the grease. 😛
