Ok, I know all about video cards, this thread is for my brother really. Right now he is running a ATi 9600 128. I know what kind of upgrade it is. Not sure if he does tho...he only know's what I tell him. He is still on AGP....I tried talking him in to getting a cheaper pci-e card and a pci-e mobo. Can you all give him your thoughts? I will show him this thread. He seem's to like the GS for the way it looks...lol...He seem's to have his heart set on NV...so I think mentioning ATi is out of the question....thoughts ?

i went from a 9800pro to this 7800gs and im getting a double fps increase in most games... now that being said, what socket is his cpu cus he might as well get a cheaper 7600gt + pci-e and be more future proof...

this is my thought because AGP is seriously showing its age..

ive yet to get oblivion but i will reinstall the 9800pro and then test with this 7800 and tell you the difference

Yeah what socket is the cpu? eventhough for the price of the 7800gs you can get a 7900gt which is SOOO much faster then that 7800gs. Just get a cheap pcie mobo, sell yours, and bam you got a killer gmaing rig.

if so, there is no reason why he can't go pcie, for the same price a 7800gs, he can afford a 7600gt and a NF4 s754 motherboard.

That 754 tforce mobo is like 60 bucks. Plus he'll sell the mobo he has right now for some more green. I would look at the 7600gt at newegg, I think its like 170 AR

The 7800GS isn't too much faster than an X850XT, and the 7600GT is faster than that. If he's on s754, he can easily grab a PCI-express capable s754 motherboard on the cheap. The Biostar Tforce 6100 comes to mind as a great board, I'm getting one myself for s754. It's about $70, and you can pair it with an eVGA 7600GT CO for $175AR at Newegg. You're all taken care of :)

I went 9800 non-pro to 6800 GS (didn't want to pay the extra 100ish CDN for 7800GS) and it was a huge jump in FPS. Quake 4 (and I'm assuming Doom 3) runs fast at 1024x768 everything on high 4X AA 8X AF.

Will the 7600 GT be limited in any way knowing it has a 128 bit controller ?

So some of you are saying that the 76 GT is faster than the 78 GS ?
