7790 power requirement?

a pc with a stock 3550 and stock 7790 would never even pull 225 watts so unless that is a worn out entry level Antec 430 watt unit then you are fine.

it seems everyone in this thread is under the impression that there is only one Antec line.

I almost wonder if that "500W minimum" is just a round about way to weed out people from trying to stick this card in a Dell/HP w/cheapo 350W PSU, that will inevitably have problems

Which 430W PSU? I had an Antec 430W Basiq and it *Barely* was enough for a 7750 and a Phenom II 550BE. The 12V rail is very wimpy on it. When I put a 965BE in it started crashing.

he already mentioned and linked to the actual psu and its Corsair CX430.

and yeah your Antec 430 watt psu is not one I would consider for long term use with any pc that uses much more than 200 watts.

Oops, missed that he posted it.

And yeah, it sucked. I didn't even bother selling it when I replaced it. I just kept it for an emergency spare, and then eventually tossed it.

I ran a 4850 and athlon II dual core with the same PSU so it should easily pull it off assuming the PSU's didnt change much in 3-4 years.

I've got a 550 BE @ 3.8 and a 5770 OC'd running off an old Thermaltake 430w and its just fine. Weak 12v on this one too. My 5770 draws a decent amount more juice than a 7790 would.
