7790 1GB an upgrade from HD4850 512MB?

For DC projects like MW@Home and Einstein@Home? (TBH, I think Einstein@Home doesn't run on the HD4850, because of too-low supported OpenCL version.)

Primarily, I guess I'm asking, does 7790 do double-precision FP like the HD4850?

I'm not sure this is an apples to apples comparison, but according to this article at Wikipedia it appears that it does support double precision, but that the double precision GFLOPS is only 128 compared to the 4850's 200 GFLOPS. For about the same amount of money you could get a used 6950 or 6970 and get ~600 GFLOPS but it would use a lot more power.

Well, I've got two 7790s on the way. I guess I'll see, but your calculations basically match mine.

Let us know how it turns out, if it puts out decent PPD it might be a good low power card for others to consider.
