775 Stock HSF Question

While re-installing my E6300 I accidentally broke off one side of the plastic tips (here), and I'm wondering whether or not it is safe to continue to use this HSF? I can still push the tab down and the other 3 tabs are secure. Please advise, thanks.

Probably not a good idea to continue to use it. Seems to me that there was a post in one of the forums (this forum under "Alternatives to push pins")about a Thermalright bakeplate with spring loaded screws posted by Navid that will accommodate the stock Intel HSF and allow you to shit-can the problematic push-pins.

Be advised that some people (myself included) have had shorting issues with that Thermalright backplate. It could be the stress of the Ultra-120 Extreme pulling the backplate into contact with the mobo, but I had system instability until I wrapped the bracket in electrical tape.

I also wrapped my back plate completely with electrical tape to prevent it from shorting the MB.

Seems to be good advice. I'll be changing over 3 units to this backplate and I'll be sure to have my electrical tape. Thanks!
