775 or 478 3 gig machine HELP !!

they cost about the same to build from the ground up. the video card would be 6600gt or 6800 oc. i can't figure out which one to get. help plesae

Depends on whether you want some upgrade ability and how much you want to spend.

The socket 478 will be cheaper and have virtually the same performance. The socket 775 board will allow you to use faster chips ie the 3.6 prescott and has some newer features most of which do nothing to increase performance.

If you have the money go for the newer 775 board. If you have older components or a lower budget go 478. I have an Asus P4P800 E 478 board with a 3.2E and its very fast.

considering current market prices: if you plan to make your system last for years, then invest in 775... other than that, get a well optimized 478 system.... it could still kick 775's ass bigtime.... and also, 775 platform is not that mature yet... i'll probably go 775 if 925X chipset gets mainstream... 🙂
