I am planning on building a new rig. If pci-e for amd was out right now this probably wouldnt matter to me, but im wondering if we are even gonna see em before christmas for pete freakin sake. btw anyone got any new info on that matter? anyway i want to go with a 6600 vid which is pci e if im not mistaken and its a really good card for the cash (again if im not mistaken) (btw i dont OC). I know a dude who said i should just go with a 775 3.2 and get the pci e Xfx 6600. I am building a budget pc for about 700. so is the 3.2 prescott or a 939 3200 better? (again no OC) I care only for gaming and price are about equal far as i can tell.

Go 939! two big reasons
1. 128 bit memory VS 64
2. On a budget you want to have room for up grade.
and even if you don't over clock you might later and its a much better chip
less voltage, less heat = more headroom

The 6600GT is available in AGP now if you can't wait, and A64 is the best choice for most games.

although, i've yet to see someone break 2.6 with an a64. what's the deal with that, by the way?

You mean on air right? Because they are most certainly beyond that with hardcore cooling. Besides 2.6ghz on an A64 is screaming fast last I checked ;)

Thanks guys i appreciate the help.

btw does the AGP 6600 stack up equal to the pci e one? i know the hsi chips dont increase latency, but you never know. also is there a big diff between the 6600s the 6600 GTs and the 6800 LEs. the prices and core/mem speeds are all over and i am having trouble figuring it all out. and did the 6600 gts go up in price all of a sudden? i thought the XFX 6600 GT was like 190 last i checked now its 240?

They are nearly identical in performance but you can check Anandtech review section for that. 6600GT outperfoms the 6800NU in some cases so it would definately be faster than a 6800LE. I would like to know how two 6800NU's perform in SLI mode whenever they get that feature.

6800 is the standard model correct? wow thats surprising that the 6600 GT which is priced significantly lower could do that. i noticed to my dismay that the agp models are significantly more than the pci e ones. for example the xfx 6600 gt pcie is about 190 and the agp one is 240. why so much difference its only one hsi chip isnt it? are the prices going to match up soon, or are they destined to be apart?

My guess is that the AGP versions are not available in sufficient quantities.

If that's the case, you might want to save on the cpu and plump as much as you can into the videocard but you might still have to be content with 6600 since there isnt much room to play around with..hmmmm..

Then i'd probably wait 1 month for Nforce 4 since you'll get PCI upgrade path, and 6600PCIe is cheaper by about $40-50 anyways than the AGp version (this justifies spending say $50 extra on nforce 4 motherboard as opposed to nforce3).

ya but they used slightly slower ram on the agp version to make up for the costs of the pcie to agp bridge so ive read so its really odd that the agp still costs a bunch more. maybe they dropped the slower cheaper ram idea so now ppl have to pay for the fast ram and the bridge chip?

Considering that Newegg is only selling one XFX 6600GT AGP card, I still don't think there are lot of cards available.
