7700 vs. 7000b?

Any opinions on these? Im thinking ill go for the smaller one as its smaller, and just as cool.

Any reason i should go with the 7700 (larger)?

Thanks...i also think the 7000b is supposed to be quieter too.

You can read a review here comparing the two and make up your own mind.
THG
I have the 7700CU and it fits, works great and is pretty quiet. The 7000 can come with a clear led lit fan though. I don't think the 7700 comes with one, yet.

Er, that link links to microsoft 😛 i think its the extra https://

Anyway, what mobo do you have? It says on the site it fits my nforce3 250gb, but i cant help but think id have to move around the RAM.

Hmmm...the 7700 is 5 bucks more and doesnt come with a light, but the 7000b does.

I dunno, i'll think on it lol. They seem like they are the exact same, but one is bigger. Noise levels are almost exactly the same, and cooling i think is nearly the same.

Yeah, i read it, just forgot to post 😛

Im really not sure...the 7700 doesnt seem to warrant a price of 5 bucks more and (lmao) an LED light less. The 7000b is in some tests quieter, and in some tests louder (but by like, .3-.5 dba at most). The 7700 was like, 2-3 C cooler at the biggest difference. Hrmmm...

thanks for your help. Any more impressions or anything?

btw, i have to take off the (for my lanparty ut nforce3 250gb) yellow stuff around the cpu where the stock hsf is attached, no?

I'm running an AMD 64 3200+ stock and the temp sensors I have installed show the temp to be 29C idle and 32-33 when running Farcry at maxed settings. don't know if that helps. I had to remove the stock mounting back plate and plastic stock mount, which is a 1/4' tall square box around the CPU and put on the Zalman back plate and NO mounting plate. Just some standoffs that the fan mounts to. If anything it increases air flow around the CPU.

Been checking the zalman website to see if the DFI LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR is compatible with the 7700. Still no listing.

The forum in NCIX has a picture of the fan on the board but it was "photoshoped" onto the board.

Any opinions?

P.S. I just joined the forums so I hope this reply is relevant.

I wouldnt get it until its official. Send them an email. I checked their listings, and it wasnt there.

Thanks for amazon.com idea, if i decide to go with the 7700 alcu or the 7000cu the prices are really cheap!

check this out:

7000a cu for 31
7000b cu for 36
7000b alcu for 29
7700 alcu for 34

now my decision is harder than ever lol.

It depends. If your decision is purely based on temperature deltas, keep in mind that the difference between each of the models isn't as big as you'd think. Many review sites have stated that there is roughly a 1 degree Celcius difference between each model step:

7000-AlCu: reference temp
7000-Cu: ~ -1C @ full load
7700-AlCu: ~ -2C @ full load
7700-Cu: ~ -3C @ full load

If you decision is based on weight, then things get a bit more difficult. The copper-aluminium hybrids tend to be a lot lighter than the all copper models. The 7700-AlCu seems to be the sweet spot for weight:cooling ratio.

7000-AlCu: 445g
7000-Cu: 773g
7700-AlCu: 600g
7700-Cu: 918g

Here are the specs for noise, if that bothers you. Note that the larger heatsinks are actually louder at full speed. However, given the larger fan and increased heat dissipation, you should be able to run the fan at a lower speed for day-to-day operations, which means in reality it should be quieter.

7000-AlCu: 18 ~27.5 dBA, ±10%
7000-Cu: 18 ~27.5 dBA, ±10%
7700-AlCu: 20 dBA min; 32 dBA max, ±10%
7700-Cu: 20 dBA min; 32 dBA max, ±10%

Then of course, there is price. Using an all copper HSF unit carries a 25-30% price premium over a hybrid aluminium-copper model. All prices from NewEgg.com as of 2005-01-25:

7000-AlCu: $36.99
7000-Cu: $46.99
7700-AlCu: $41.49
7700-Cu: $50.99

So again, the 7700-AlCu meets that sweet spot for price. However, there is a small issue. The 7700-series is huge, and not every mainboard supports it. Support for Socket-A boards was dropped in the 7700 and support for Socket-775 was added.

7000 series on Athlon Socket-A

7000 series on Athlon64 Socket 754/939/940

7000 series on Intel Socket 478

7700 series on Athlon64 Socket 754/939/940

7700 series on Intel Socket 478

7700 series on Intel Socket 775

Hope this helps some people out.

Only $7 difference at most between all......get the one you like the most!

Toejam, you, my friend, rock. Thanks alot! I myself noticed the same thing too.

I am gonna go with the 7000B aclu. its only 29 bucks too! Not sure if this one has an LED, but for that price, who cares?!

Also... Keep in mind the 7700Cu weighs in at a whopping 975 grams-- That's almost 1 kilogram/2.2 pounds. VERY heavy piece of metal.

If you move your PC around a lot, you might want to avoid it, because that heatsink is coming off with a good jolt, and it WILL take a piece of the motherboard with it.

CNPS7000B-ALCU is the smaller hybrid unit with a standard fan ($36.99 at NewEgg) while CNPS7000B-AlCuLED has the clear LED lit fan ($39.99 at NewEgg)
