Would dual 770 max out games at 2560x1440 at least until Volta comes out? I currently have the 4 gb windforce model and was thinking of doubling up.

Not sure now is the right time to be looking at buying additional old hardware, when AMD is about to announce a big die 780 for 2/3s the cost....
I guess you need to weight up what you are missing with 1 card that 2 will provide...AA, low mins?

Do you think he is supposed to sell his 770 just because AMD is about to release a new card, or are you hinting that maybe Nvidia will lower the 770 price point?

Well I didn't want to get the new amd with 20nm cards coming out in less than a year. I was thinking of skipping the first 20nm release and doubling up on what I had until the second ones came out. I was also thinking of selling this card when Maxwell came out and picking up one of those instead.

That's different. Maxing things out until Maxwell comes? Yes, for the most part. There's going to be an outlier or two (there always is), but pretty much everything should run great on 770SLI.

I have two 4GB GTX 770 Windforce cards and I'm able to max out most games I play.

The term "max out" is subjective though. For example, I play Crysis 3 at 2560x1440 VHQ SMAA 2x.. Is the game maxed out technically speaking?

No. I could opt to use MSAA 4x for example, but the performance hit is huge.

But does it look awesome? Damn straight! :D

If you do double up though, make sure you have a fast enough CPU as SLI requires significantly more from the CPU to perform well.

Well I suppose "max out" was the wrong term to use. I meant if it would play games at higher graphic settings. I think my cpu is fine, 3570k@4.4ghz. Anyways do you guys think that setup would get me through to Volta comfortably? Or should I sell it and pick up Maxwell?

Personally, I'm not upgrading until Maxwell has a re-spin. I fully expect my cards to last till then, and be able to come close to maxing out any game that comes out.

The next gen console craze is overrated. Current game worthy PCs are already much more powerful than the consoles, unlike when the Xbox 360 first released and had an advantage over PCs at that time.

Alright guys thanks for the input, I think I'm going to wait and see if these new amd drop the price on the 770s.

Who can tell, but i do believe it will have a price impact to be sure, especially if leaked performance figures are true..

What would have to happen for prices to go up ?

They pretty much won't go up, but price fixing between AMD and nVidia to keep GPU performance nearly equal at all levels (without regard to obscenely priced TITAN cards)
will maintain the current high prices for GPU's. (i.e. 500+ for high end performance enthusiast)

Then they just rely on game bundles to sway people one way or the other.
