I wonder if anyone of you read the news from december 13 at http://www.2cpu.com/index.html

Dosn't make me happy...ok, the asus board didn't interest me, but the Tyan Tiger MPX with onboard LAN...but it's pointless if dual XPs won't run, money won't grow on trees...

Now i'm wondering if the chipset won't allow dual XP, or if they may have changed the cpus, so that buying the "old" Tiger MP plus 2 XPs won't help me either...

I would like to know that, too. Was planning to buy a 760MPX board with 2 XPs in January.

I too had heard something about this. So here is a third bump.

<edit> Disregard. I should have read the original posters thread more carefully. </edit>

Still goes back to the one person over in storage review. I'm holding out for this being a hoax. (It has better!)

What a luck that i'm a german :D

Ok, the text says that the board they are currently reviewing DOES run with two Athlon XPs, it even detects them as MPs. Their explanation for the the problem "AMD XP CPU detected - forcing single CPU mode" is that the cpu did not meet the specificatoins for SMP usage.
Lets hope not too many cpus can't run in SMP, for whatever reason.

They did not have to upgrade the Bios, however they are waiting for a new Bios from Asus since the the current (1003) makes lots of troubles so they couldn't do a proper review yet. What kind of problems those are is not further described.

THANKS AMD :D
(and i hope my english is not too bad...)

Lynx3D: Does it mention anywhere how common these non-SMP capable XPs are? Cuz if say there are XPs that are detected as SMP capable, and some that are detected as the opposite, it seems to me that these non-SMP capable XPs would have problems with SMP in general, and thus the TigerMP as well, even though the TigerMP's BIOS may not force it into single cpu mode. If this is the case, then maybe it's safe to say that a large percentage of XPs are SMP-capable since it doesn't seem like people are having problems. Anyway, I'm just hoping for the best =)

No information on how chances are that the cpus won't run in dual boards...

But there is a small discussion, and one of them did not manage run his Tiger MP with 2 Athlon C 1.0GHz, whereas another guy could without a problem.
So it seems to me that such "bad" cpus do at least exist...(or he to dumb to configure it...?)

How many people here in the forum are running a dual XP (or TB/Duron) system? Would be really interested in how many of them had to get another cpu...

As someone else mentioned, this whole 'no XP in MPX board' may be a hoax..
Discussed here...

A member over at 2CPU.com, dryerye, is digging out the difference in pin-out between XP and MP, and all he has come up with so far, is that the XP seems to lack the pins required for ECC operation...

Discussion Here...

Another interesting development, looks like the MPX chip set has a USB problem...

I still firmly believe it is a hoax. There is no good marketing decision to do this. If it isn't a hoax, we'll have to get busy on that bios hack!

The USB 1.1 glitch (whcih is true) with AMD's MPX chipset works out to be our gain, as I just read that the boards will be available in Jan '02, bundled with USB 2.0 cards! :D
