7600GT worth to get?

Since 7600GT is marked ~$200 , which is really temping to me.
Is it worht the money if I get one and replace my Radeon X800XL?
As long as I sell my X800XL at a resonable price.

$300 for the 7900 gt is a much better choice

at this price point, it's the best bang for bucks especially since there's a lot of oc headroom

A 7600GT will outperform a X800XL. (Since the 7600GT performs better than the 6800GS even with AA/AF applied)

The 7600GT's are going for $199.

What is your PC rig like?

Well, thx for the advise, but I'm not really a high end pursuiting kind of person.
I just want to get myself a decent card to play some new games, which my X800XL can still do good for about 3 months..... maybe.
I'm guessing I could sell my card for about $100 and pay ~$100 for a new card to buy some time.
And suggestions other than I get a high end card?

A64 3200+
MSI Neo4 plati
Muskin green 1GB
2 160GB HD
DVDRW

I'm planning to get a AM2 rig when it's out, I don't think my X800Xl would do me any good on that system, that's why I think I might need to get a new card.

Grab the 7600GT, and another gig of ram.

edit - what resolution will you be playing?

Mostly 1024*768.
I think I go for the card, but I'll wait on the ram since if I get the AM2 system, I need to get new rams also.

The 7600gt will suit you, but if you can, save for the 7900gt if you're gaming. It has twice the memory bandwith and benchmarks so much better.

he says he games at 1024x768 so the 7900gt would be overkill.

your x800xl is a good card, the 7600gt is faster but not by much maybe just 20%, u pay $200 and your games only run a little faster. i reckon u should get the 7900gt or x1800xt 256mb, they are like 100%+ faster and still affordable.

I'll have to agree with this, it's common sense... It's a great card for it's price/perf though w/o a doubt..

Well firstly the 7600GT is less noisy. Less power by quite a margin and heat.

Plus he gets all sorts of features for 100 dollars. (After selling X800XL). Features like HDR, TRAA, pure video etc.
An 6800GS is faster than the X800XL. The 7600GT is faster than the 6800GS.

Plus at 10x7 the 7600GT fits the bill perfectly.

since an x800xl is dead even with a 6800gs...and a 7600gt is what, ~10% faster than a 6800gs, just keep the x800xl unless you're really wanting hdr. besides, the cards were just released, wait a little while and prices should drop pretty fast, by then you can probably get a used 7800gt for that price. (they're in the fs/ft forums for like $210 nowadays)

Yeah I agree with LW07 keep saving for high end video card or for the next generation G80 Nvidia cards which will include the HDCP support for Windows Vista. The 7600GT its not as revolutionary as everybody saids, a 6800GS with 512MB can score more less the same performance, The 7600GT is an excellent choice if you have a 6600GT and down. Im still not convinced about the 128bit interface.

The 7600GT looks somewhat interesting to me as well. I bought a 7300GS to let me use my new rig while I was waiting for the new 7900 series parts to be ready. I've noticed that the 7300GS itself does a decent job in Quake 4 at my LCD resolution (1280 x 1024). I have a hard time justifying a 7900GTX when I'm not going to use resolutions over 1280 x 1024. Even the 7900GT might be overkill.

My 6800 was holding up well at 1280 x 1024 (not so much at 1680x1050). The 7600GT would probably be the best option for you.

I wouldnt consider a X850XT right now since games soon coming out are all either S.M 3.0 (either then Prey and Quake Wars which the X series get a beating).

What games are you going to play?

I would stick with the x800xl. The 7600gt is nice, but I dont know what people are talking about when they say its not noisy. Its the noisiest card Ive ever had. Am planning on doing mini review of it soon, but waiting for driver update cause the 84.20 are crap with this card.

Edit: That being said, the card is blazing for the price, and can already be found for a little less than 200, making it a steal IMO, considering it smokes the GS.
