7600GT works fine with a 300-watt power supply

A week or two back there was a post about a guy who could not get his 7600GT to work properly on a 300-watt PS. I have mine hooked up to a Gateway 300-watt PS and it works great. So don't worry guys, this card will work fine, I think that guy just had a bum card.

Also to note, the fan is RIDICULOUSLY loud at full speed. Gonna need to replace it soon.

It all depends on how that 300W is distributed and if it can truly sustain clean power. Give your card a few weeks and you'll know if the increased (maybe?) load is adversely affecting it.

Also, I would venture to say that many of those 450W Power supplies bundled with $30 cases might not be up to snuff, either 😉

*The fan is the reason I ordered the GS, guess we'll see just hot a passively cooled version of that card runs come Tuesday...

i have a 300 watt fortron source power supply that is atx 2.01 complaint. so most of its 300 watts are on the 12v rails. it has more 12v rail capacity than most 450 watt atx 1.3 psus

I remember some test too where 300watt power supplies could last up to 400 watts.

Well, believe it or not, I'm runnng an overclocked Opty 170 and a 7900GT on a 330W Tagan PSU.

Seems to be working ok so far!

Yup, my FSP AX400 is currently running my x1800 Crossfire setup with an overclocked X2 Processor, Fortron = quality.

I wasn't going to even try it untill I got another powersupply solution, but decided to give it a shot and it works and appears to be stable. Its not going to be my long term solution, and I'm sure its pushing it, but it shows how a quality power supply can make a difference.

Athlon 3500+
Micro-BTX Motherboard
Chaintech AV-710
7600GT
250GB 7200RPM HDD
1GB RAM

If only RivaTuner worked with the 7600 series I could lower the fanspeeds a bit, but I guess I'll just have to wait.

it sounds like you have a gt4010 but the gt4010 has a 200gb hard drive.
