7600gt vs. CPU

Anyone know what CPU will push a 7600gt most efficiently? i.e. An AthlonXP at 2ghz would probably be too slow and the GPU would be waiting for it, but how 'bout a dual-cored Opteron at 2ghz?

That opty would basically be a 3800 with cache, but it will OC quite well (for the K8, no comparision to C2D of course).

I have good performance from my 7600Gt and X2 3800+. When I built my machine last year I did not want to go ultra-high end, but I wanted to play some games with decent graphics. (Old machine was AMD 900 and ATI 8500).

just posted a similar question regarding a 8800GTX and CPU.

I already have my video card (Geforce 8800GTX 768MB) and am about to buy a new Dell system with 2GB Ram. For processors, I'm considering the Core 2 Duo E6600 or E6700.

Can the E6600 handle that card maxed out with no bottlenecking? If so, I have no need to spend the extra $250 $$ on the e6700.

Any opinions GREATLY appreciated!!

A 7600GT would be a good match for a 2.2 Ghz A64. But then again, an X2 3800 is 91% as fast as the 2.2 Ghz 4200. Just use one level higher AA, and they'll be matched.😉
