Hello all, I am currently running a 7600GT/256 AGP, but have seen the 9600GT coming way down in price lately.
Will I notice a big difference with an upgrade?, CPU is an E4600@3 Ghz, I also noticed 7600GT's fetching a good $$$
on Ebay recently, probably because it was one of the last decent AGP cards out there. My Mobo has both AGP and
PCI-e slots so I can use either one. Thanks in advance for your suggestions/opinions.

A 4850 for $150 might not be a far stretch if you can get $80 or so for the 7600GT. Other than that 9600GT is a significant upgrade from 7600GT.

what do you think? I dont understand questions like this when there are crap loads of reviews out there showing you EXACTLY what to expect from a 9600gt.

that being said even an 8600gt will blow away a 7600gt in modern games like Bioshock, UT3 and Crysis. the 9600gt will be about twice as fast as an 8600gt in those games at 1280 and even faster at higher resolutions.

I know it will be faster, I value the opinions of AT users as much as any reviews. Also interested in alternatives offerings from other vendors as well. I've been out of the loop on GPU's for over a year so the experience of users here is invaluable to me, Thank you for your time.

7600gt doesn't really get compared to the new videocards though. It's a very worthwhile upgrade, but as you seem to like to stick to your hardware for a long while, I'd grab a HD4850, it's another significant step-up from the 9600gt, and will last you a fair bit longer before it becomes to long in the tooth.

LOL, yea, I do stick with older stuff for too long, in a weird (and uncommon) way I'm gonna get way more for the 7600GT than it's actually worth. Just saw an open box HD4850 on NE for $137, might just jump on it..

A 9600GT would blow the 7600GT out of the water. Probably 3-4 times faster, but thats with the 7600 on low/med settings and the 9600 on med/high.

Shit, I was reading up on my Mobo and found the 16X PCI-E slot only runs@ 4X...Still might do it anyway while the prices for AGP cards are high and when I get a new Mobo I'll already have a PCI-E card to put in it..

I just bought this Asus HD3850 from Newegg for $60 after $30MIR, M$ cashback and Discover cashback

Comes with CoH Opposing Fronts, Alone in the Dark, and aftermarket cooler pre-installed.
where do you see Alone in the Dark on there becasue all I see COH

Offer is no longer available, unfortunately. It was a Newegg "gift" with purchase
