7600gt questions

how does this card perform noise wise with stock cooler, should i invest in a NV silencer/vf900?

also, this is reaplacing my passive 6600 in my PCI-e Shuttle i recently obtained cus that card is heating up to 80 some at load...

i have 2 slots open. its the SB81P, it has a p4 3.2 prescott socket 775 and 2 gigs of ram already... its whats gonna hold me out until conroe.

now what is really annoying is it doesnt have any spare molex connectors or any PCI-E graphics card connectors on the 350Watt PSU.. it seems 2 12 rails 17A each... so im thinking a 7600 at 12x10 resolution should hold fine for WoW and Oblivion.

7900gt is an option if somehow i can rig another PSU to the thing without having to modd the case.

Edit: Also, i would like to add this card will also used for some processing as well as video's... i think it should do fine..

what are ATI's options as well as im more of an ATi guy myself but i havent heard much for this price range

Edit2: NV5 Rev 3 or VF700 better for Shuttle

In 2D mode you can barely hear the fan, but in 3D mode it gets annoyingly loud. I can't imagine how anyone could stand the noise, it sounds like a leafblower. I'd suggest getting a VF700 or similar cooler, not only will you get significantly lower temps you can get silent performance as well.

now ive never really aftermarket coolered any of My cards so i dont know.. my 9800pro didnt bother me. my 7800gs doesnt bother me. my x800 pro doesnt bother me so i didnt really have a problem

but im really worried about this little ass cooler ont he 7600gt.. after looking at the zalman site how ever, id doesnt say it supports the 7600gt. but after further looking around... 7600 layout = 7900 layout basically..

Also, would i be better off geting a DHES for my shuttle as it is a shuttle..

this card doesn't need extravagant cooling. get a vf700 and save some money. they are easy to install. and yes the cooler is extremely loud, and you will notice it unless you already have 50 fans running in your case.

leafblower is overboard...

a well aired case and nicely closed off wont give off noise that is uncommon among fanned vcards, however like any vcard, it would like a specialized video card cooler for sure.

for those who don't care about a silent pc, then yes I suppose one could live with the sound of the 7600GT stock cooler. But if your like me and want your PC to be relatively quiet, the stock cooler gets the boot.

thnks for input guys...
final debate... nv5 rev 3 or vf700

vf900 or vf700, i'm sure that the NV5 rev3 is incompatible with the 7600gt

Shuttles don't accept dual slot coolers, unless the design has changed since I was into the SFF scene. The XFX 7600GS XXX offers pretty close performance to the 7600GT and is passively cooled. Neither of those cards will handle Oblivion in 12x10, WoW should be fine though.

my current situation is i cant use passive, and shuttles can use a 2slot cooler cus this one is ont he right side and not the left..

well i just looked in the case and noticed something odd.. theres 3 atx power connectors.. instead of the normal 20/24 pin, there seems to be 2 10 pin or 12 pin split off and plugged into different areas. then theres the 4x1/6x1 couldnt tell but it was plugged in...

guess im stuck with a 7600gt + vf700 or something now

7600GT really that loud?? 🙁 Bah, I may consider not getting it then as I like quiet. Unless the board makers make revisions to their coolers. Can't be bothered with changing coolers, I'd probably mess it up.
