7600GT overclocks. HELP

My bro has this card with a vf-700 on it, I was wondering how far can he push the card?

He has it at 610/800 right now. How much more can it take? What oc's have you guys gotten?

You know you have to be careful with memory mod, right? I wouldn't touch Vdimm.

Ok, I will only do a GPU mod then. All I need is a pencil sweet

How do I know exactly how much pencil to use? Like how much to shade?

Also is there a way to see the voltage without a multimeter?

I did the pencil mod, now it doesn't matter where I clock the card riva tuner gives me an error. Same with overclocking through nvidia drivers. Help?

Umm.. you did it without a multimeter? I surely hope not..
But then again it usually takes alot of shading than many would make it out to be. It is also possible that graphite was touching nearby resistors. Erase it thoroughly, and final clean with rubbing alcohol. Get some sleep, and go to a hardware store tomorrow and get a multimeter before you attempt anything else!

I won a 7600GT KO from evga last month and today they finally shipped it, so I decided what the hell and tried the pencil mod on my current 7600GT (eVGA, but not KO or CO, standard clocks and obviously binned cause the highest oc on the core was 590 at default volts).

At first I checked the resistance, it was 409, so I shaded some and then the resistance was 394 at that point I was able to reach 621 on the core so I shaded some more and lowered the resistance to 384 (which is about how low he says to go in the article) at which point I was able to reach a core speed of 638.

And last but not least, I was thinking of selling my new KO while still sealed and making probably $20 more than I would if I were to sell an unsealed one but if I could get a much better oc on the KO I'll definitely open it and sell my used one, so what would you guys do (on my current one the GPU oc's like crap but the RAM actually reaches 840 at default volts, how high should I expect the RAM to go on my new KO?)?

If my calculations are correct you'd have to reach about 750MHz to equate a 450MHz 7900GS (and lot's of gs's go way beyond 450...)

Look closely in the pics. You'll notice that the line goes "C" shape where indicated. Basically you want to shade the rectengular "C" line so that you can reduce the resistance.

I had a 7600 GT briefly so I can't remember exactly. Also I don't think I measured the resistance - I just looked up the voltages. I believe I gave ~0.1V over stock voltage for the core to achieve 700MHz. The thing with 7600 GT is that it doesn't take a 6-pin power connector so it gets all the power from motherboard, which can possibly stress the card's power circuitry when v-modding. It's another reason why I wouldn't recommend memory v-mod. If your board has any setting regarding power supply for the PEG (could be worded something like 'Slot Power', 'PCI-E Power', etc.) try selecting higher values than your current one. Make sure to plug all power connectors on the motherboard as well.
