7600GT KO Temps

My eVGA 7600GT KO (580/1500 and I undid my OC back to stock eVGA speeds) idles at 65C and Loads at 80+ C with 100% fan speed on all settings in RivaTuner. It has Ceramique applied to the HSF, but the idle temps stayed the same and the load temps increased from the 70s into the 80s.

Is something wrong with my card? Most other 7600GTs don't seem to have temps this high.

Here's my experience of my card and yes it is also hot. I reapplied the AS5 twice and it made a tad difference. All I can do was to make my 2d , 3d and low 3d fan @ 65%. And Also I added a pci exhaust fan right below the card to suck up the crappy warm air. It's pretty nice 🙂

usually my card idles @ mid 50 C depending on the day. and it loads @ 76-77 now

if you're not getting any hang ups, artifacts or any other crazy stuff. You'll be fine. But it would be better if it has an aftermarket cooler to keep the temps down. I use a stock, i'm pretty happy.

40-55 C on idle is normal
< 90 Cunder load is okay
110 C > throttle
150 C > silicon melts

Yeah I'm getting the feeling that a VF700 is inevitable...I got a 3 second black screen today during NFS MW...so I think the temps are on the verge for this card...

yeah. Some day i'll be planning on getting one too if necessary.

had you installed the latest drivers instead the ones that came from the disc? I installed the latest drivers and it did lowered my pervious idle temps (72 C) to (55 C)

I think a vf900 would be better...though a vf700 would probably be ok.

I think it's just a heatsink issue...but maybe you should rma it or something?

Yeah, it's a heatsink problem. It's crappy when I check the bottom of HSF, let me tell ya, it's not smooth at all.

I'm thinking it's more of a driver issue than a heatsink issue. Powermoloch said his temps dropped ~17C with a driver update. One of the things they put in drivers is temp reporting tools. Nearly every time I update my video drivers my temps change a bit. New mobos come out, ATI or NVidia introduce compatibility with those mobo's temp reporting, and you see the difference. An easy way to check this is to actually feel the HS as it's supposedly at 90C. If it's really 90C you'll know it. If it's just warm then it's probably closer to 65-75.

Anyway, my point is that updating drivers isn't what's dropping your temps 17C if you're at the same clocks. It's something else. Drivers only let the OS use the device, not control clocks and heat-generating factors.

Yeah it was the drivers. Updated to newer 84.21 drivers from 83.91 and now I idle at 49C compared to 65C before. Didn't try 91.31 drivers yet b/c 2 of my friends said they have had problems with crashes and such.

I never had problems with the new drivers. I have no crashes whatsoever.

Well, one of my friends gets crashes in Oblivion all the time with 91.31 drivers, and after he "upgraded" to 84.21 the crashes were gone, so they were most likely attributed to the drivers. Another one gets crashes in a different game (forgot what it was), so with their problems I didn't want to take a chance on the newer drivers.
