7600GT at 67C Idle?

My 7600GT says it runs at 67C idle. Is this too hot, and is there an error possibly?

I don't know why the card would run this hot, I have 3 fans in my case. Even adding a fourth brings it down to 64C (and it is too loud with the fourth).
 
Remember, usually video cards can run hotter than CPU's. My 6800GT idles at around 58 C and under load can go over 70 C. I'm not sure about your card as far as the right temperature is though.

Does your CPU run hot too? Because if your CPU does also it could just be bad airflow. If it runs at a normal temperature though, 67 C could very well be the normal temperature for your card too.
 
I just installed an eVGA 7600 GT last night and it runs around 51 - 55 C idle. I also have a Dell 8400 and the airflow sucks like hell. Added a Vantec PCI slot fan and the temps don't seem to drop at all.

Looks like your card is on the high side. It should be OK tho if everything runs fine.
 
My ASUS 6800GT PCI-E runs at 66 idle and 72 under load. I'm not sure if it's hot or not, all I know is it's stable and I OC'ed the card from 350/1000 stock to 420/1150 and the temps are the same as stock. My case as is side open and it doesn't lower the temp.

I think it's a "normal" temperature.
 
My CPU and case temps are normal, I get 82C load on my video card. Case goes no higher than 33C load, and CPU no higher than 42C load.

I checked the Nvidia temperature feature in the drivers and the threshhold by default is set at 115C! Maybe the card is just a hot performer like you said it is.
 
67C is far too hot for an idle temp, regardless of what video card it is.

Assuming the reading is correct check the HSF for damage and/or contact problems.

oh yeah my 7800gt idles @37C(NV5 Silencer), and this has nothing to do with helping out the OP.

check into what BFG10K suggested the heatsink may not be making proper contact with the GPU, 67c idle is too high

if it's anything like my 6600GT and the stock hsf sucks donkey balls, then those temps aren;t that bad...my card idled at 62'C and loaded at 87'C with the stock hsf & As5...

right now it is idling at 47'C, and loads in the high 50'Cs...with a VF700-CU 😀
 
In a British summer, my 6600GT was running Idle at between 43-45C degrees - 67 is way too hot for idle for a card of it's class, if it's doing that idle, it will be much higher on load.
 
67C seems way too hot. I agree with the other poster, try reseating the heat
sink. My new BFG 7900gt has been overclocked further than what they've done
and it idles at about 40-42C with the stock fan on it.
 
Well for reference, Guru 3D had their 7600GT running at 39C idle and 65C at 100% load!

So, maybe your HSF has bad contact with the core??

my temps were in an Australian summer 😉

But yeah, my idle temp was still only 62'C so his is pretty awful...
 
I had an issue witha brand new 7600GT. When I would load to windows it would say there was not sufficient power to run the card. It wanted me to put the external plug in, but there is no external power socket for this card. I emailed eVGA support and they sent me a bios flash. I flashed my bios and all is well. One of the side effects of this problem, however, was that I was idling at about 64c. Once I flashed the bios, it run idle at 54ish and this is an htpc case so it's tight and not the best airflow.

You may need to have your bios flashed as well. I wuold definately look into it.



 
Yeah...It's a bit toasty for a rig like yours but it is not alarmingly high.
My son's Dell Dim 4700 which has a 6800 (vanilla) that has been sitting on idle @63C for couple of years and still running fine. A Dell chassis is basically a physically closed system with not much of air ventilation being circulated and that's the main reason for the 6800's high idle temps (in load about 70c to 80c).
Whereas my Dell Gen 4 (7800GT & NV5 silencer) is 40c idle and 60c in load.
My AMD gaming rig (eVGA-7800gtx), idle 39c and low 50c in load.
 
My 6800GT is idling at 60C right now, OC'ed to 400/1100. Usually it will peak around 75 to 80C under full load. Lousy airflow in my case, I'm afraid, too full of hdds and DVDROM drives.

67C is too high of a temp for an idle temp, I'd be taking off that HSF, cleaning it, reapplying AS5, and reseating it. If that doesn't work, start looking at a after market cooler.
