what are the differances in these cards?
the 7600gs is only 99 after rebate and the 7600gt is 180 is it really worth th extra 80bucks??

im upgrading from a 6600gt...so will i notice a differance?
old card

new card

one of newegg reviews mentions that u can do a volt mod and get the GT speeds from the GS..this cud be gr8 if true.

wouldnt the ram hamper that ability??

id say its worth the extra 80 ...

7600GS = 6600GT

7600GT = 6800GT

Well, it's pretty much been summed up. I'll just chime in and say the 7600GS kind of stinks considering it's price right now. It's slightly better than a GT, but not by much. MAYBE if it goes down more, it'll be worth it. On the bright side, the GS doesn't have the crazy loud fan of a GT which turns on under 'heavier load.'

X850XT doesn't have shader model 3, which might be important if the OP wants future-proofing for games in the next 2-4 years. but it is a good card at a fair price.

The GDDR2 memory likely won't come close to 1400mhz, but if you're not applying much AA or using too high a res, then I think you won't see that large a difference.

Yea, if he wants SM3....But with the next generation coming...won't those support SM4 ? If games start to support 4 around that time....who will really worry about 3 ? I dont know....

A 7600GS is much faster than the 6600GT. The 7600GT is faster than the 6800GS/6800GT even with high res, AA/AF.

Review of the 7600GS

You also have to remember that the 7600GS has passive cooling. Maybe add in a silent fan plus some OCing and it may be close to GT performance.

EVGA 7600GT $164 AR

This would be a better deal. Great mid range card with S.M 3.0.

if you get the 7600GT and care about noise be prepared to shell out more cash for an aftermarket cooler. Or just buy one that doesn't use the reference cooler, but make sure you have good airflow.
