755FX with 4x DDR ?

I've been thinking of buying a Foxconn 755FX motherboard and an A64 3000+. Mainly for use with photoshop and general computing...

However, my question (that I haven't found answered elsewhere) is:

Can I put 2 sticks of DDR333 and 2 sticks of DDR266 for a total of 2GB of RAM in this type of system ?
Obviously I will have to run all of it at 266 speeds (which would be fine)..

Not looking to buy new memory at this point. Advice greatly appreciated.

Welcome to anandtech forums!

Yes, why not. Note that your DIMMs must be functionally identical pairs to work in dual channel. They don't have to be identical all four, just matching pairs.

btw, this is nothing to do with the chipset. AMD64 architecture has the RAM controller in the CPU.

hmm, no problem with that 266er Ram, but when u buy new memory u should buy single sided Ram. If u u use more than 2 modules of double sided Ram, speed will reduce. Either it will be like 400MHz@Commandrate T2, or 333Mhz@Commandrate T1. Just want u to know that. So buy either only 2 modules of double sided ram or - if u want to use mroe slots - go for single sided Ram.

Thanks, and when I buy new RAM I will probably look closer at the situation. Currently I am trying to get away with using what I have. 🙂
