754 or 939?

Hi I'm new here but I've been trolling for awhile.

I can't decide if I want to go cheap (Fry's 754 combo) or spend a little more for 939.

I have a 6800 NU AGP, so I need a system that will last only as long as the vid card lasts, though I might be able to upgrade the vid card once (if AGP is still around by then).

I'm not much of an overclocker though I'd be willing to try it a little. From what I've seen, I'd rather not pay extra for the 939s when I won't get any performance benefits (unless I OC)

If I go with 754, I will most likely upgrade CPU/mobo when vid card becomes obsolete. If I go with 939, I'll most likely try to upgrade the vid card one more time (replacing the 6800).

Would buying value RAM make going with the 939 (and overclocking) less useful? Since the RAM probably won't OC very well. I couldn't resist getting the Mushkin value PC3200 from the outpost/fry's deal.

I'm a budget/bang-for-buck guy. I try to keep a decent system but never a top of the line one. I game when I can though not as much as before.

EDIT: Also, I like to keep a quiet/near-silent computer. I plan on getting an XP-90 and slapping a Panaflo 80mm or some other quiet fan on it. Any overclocking I do must be adequately cooled by that. Although the 939s may be easier to cool, I don't think I'd get them unless I overclock, but again, I don't plan on running voltages too high.

Thanks in advance.

personally i would go with the 939, mainly because of the dual channel ability. but if you dont want to get some decent ram that wouldnt matter. however you can get some dual channel kits for just a little more i believe i think patriot and a few other make some cheap ram capable of dual channel. im not really sure of the performance difference you will see with it. another thing is that you can get the new smaller core 939 cpus. which are better for OC ing if im not mistaken.

well i just read a newer thread where a guy says that the dual channel increase is only about 1-5% and that the Mhz increase of the 754s of same rating is worth about a 10% increase. I would like to know if this is primarily true of all dual channel systems? That would be sobering.
