754/939 Heatsinks the same?

S939 runs no faster than S754, excluding the fx-55.

And yes, you can use the same heatsink for both.

Not to mention that the physical size of the CPU's and sockets are the same, just the pincount is different. That's why you see HSF's compatible with Sockets 754\939\940. I think AMD purposely did this.

Both of the Winchesters I've had and the 3000+ Newcastle I put in a machine for my sister all had the same retail HSF.

yeah are interchangeable... except the newer ones are harder to remove than the older ones i've had... anyone else notice that?

The heat output differences though.

The heat output doesn't change for teh same frequency CPU between different sockets, but it is different between CPUs of different frequencies.

In other words, socket is completely unrelated to heat output.

With the excpetion of the FX line, I think all Athlon-64 heatsinks are the same... 939 or 754, doesn't matter. Of course, they may vary slightly due to the supplies they have, but they should all have the same specifications. People seem to think you need exotic cooling to overclock, but when you buy a 1.6 GHz 2800+ and it comes with the same heatsink as a 2.4 GHz 3800+ it should make you think twice about ditching the retail heatsink. If you're overvolting and going for 2.8 GHz then it's another story... but for mild overclocking, retail heatsinks are fine.
