Hi,

I just got a 750GB seagate drive and a vantec nexstar 3 enclosure for it. I have the P5K-e wifi-ap mainboard, and i want to use the drive and enclosure with the esata ports on the back, which are controlled onboard by a jmicron chip. In the bios I enabled the controller and set it ahci. the drive was able to be seen in the portion of the bios where i can set the boot disk order, and later on during bootup it can be seen that it's detected by the jmicron bios in a brief screen.
Problem is vista (64 bit) won't detect the drive. I can go into drive management, and there's nothing there. the 750GB drive comes with a jumper setting it to a 1.5 Gb/s limit, and i removed it to see if it would make a difference if i unlocked it to 3.0, but it didn't.

anyone know how to resolve this?
thanks in advance.

I assume Vista sees the JMicron controller?

Nothing explicitly says JMicron in the device manager, though the dvd drive that is also controlled by the JMicron controller works fine.

thanks for leading me down the right path. fixed it by installing the latest driver from the JMicron site. Wasn't used to doing things that way after relying on windows update for a while. The driver install didn't go smoothly though... got a BSOD on the first 3 or 4 reboots after installing before booting into windows normally. been workign fine since, and i've rebooted a couple times to see if it's stable. all appears ok.

edit: also came across this nifty program while searching for a fix. recommended to anyone hotswapping esata drives: http://mysite.verizon.net/kaakoon/hotswap/index_enu.htm
