74GB 10,000 RPM Raptors promo

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to tell everyone who signed up for the Ballistix Dream machine, thank you and I found out there is a cool promotion going out from Western Digital for those who did sign up which can be found http://images10.newegg.com/upl...dex.htm?CMP=EMC-NEW4WD]here[/URL]. So all you techys who did sign up and have your spam filters turned on may not have received this so I am posting it here. These drives are awesome it is only for a 2 week time period, so if you were thinking about a fast A$$ drive, now is the time to move!!!

Once again thank you,

I have one of these drives & it is indeed a screamer. 🙂

However I've read that the performance increase over having two of these in RAID as opposed to say just one with your apps/progs on is min.

I'll see if I can dig up the article.

No need to buy two to get "Ultra" speed performance.

Whoaw, almost off topic, but I can't help but comment on it. Anyone else notice the layout!? Is newegg protyping a new site? If you hit FAQ you get the FAQ page with a bunch of latin filler at the top. The main site doesn't reflect this and it looks like it's only the image server? I'm going to play around with this somemore. It looks pretty slick as their old site was starting to get a little crowded with its layout IMHO.

Sorry all for the confusion. BTW don't confuse this with NewEggs regular site, this was setup for the promo.

Use promo code NEW4WD

It looks like its more than just for the promo though, it looks like their testing a new layout. The "Lorem ipsum" on the FAQ page is a telltale sign of this as that's what most webdevs do when they need filler for test the layout.

how much faster is a 10,000rpm vs 7200rpm? can you tell the difference in regular usage?

I just went from a 7200rpm Samsung to a raptor, and I really havent noticed any difference in regular usage. Installing Win XP seemed to go by a little faster, nothing really noticable though. It made a significant increase in fps when recording with Fraps though, which is mainly hard drive limited.

Where I notice the biggest difference with a Raptor is in games. Lvl load times are SIGNIFICANTLY Shorter than with the 1200JB from WD I was using. I think it may shave a few seconds off boot times, but this is a drive for Gamers

does it come with the sata plug and power cable?

I'm in NJ so tax kinda makes it less hot but I'm in anyway.

No it comes bare you have to buy the cable.s but most new MB's come with them. I probalby have about 20 spares.

I recently switched my pair of 74 gig raptors out in a raid zero for a pair of the new maxtor maxline3 16mb cache 300 gig drives. I lost some seek time's but my Average read didnt lose much. And they actually burst faster than my raptors i had.

I cant tell the difference at all. I paid $204 each for my 300 gig'ers @ newegg. Actually less than when i bought my 74 gig raptors.

I agree, somethign strange is going on here.If you go to the contact us section (or any other for that matter) you get a shopping cart with "10 items ($41,240)" but none of the links work to view any other items. Definatly looks like a new site prototype or something..

BTW the filler that reads

"Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. Quisque porta mauris ac eros. Praesent malesuada tincidunt neque. Ut tellus dui, imperdiet a, dignissim ac, dapibus ac, nulla. Aliquam erat volutpat. Suspendisse eleifend adipiscing massa. Curabitur metus. Fusce in magna. Vivamus congue orci ut sem. Fusce suscipit eros sit amet lacus. Vivamus dictum sodales pede. Cras condimentum auctor felis. Duis vitae dolor nec ligula feugiat malesuada."

What is the translation
