Will older CD-ROM drives have any easier time reading 74 min CD-Rs than 80 min CD-Rs? My spindle of 74 min CD-Rs just ran out and I was planning on buying more 74 min CD-Rs because I don't need the extra 6 mins, but all I can find on sale for the most part is 80 min CD-Rs. Thanks!

Some will read 80 min and some won't... I don't know specific drives though but if it was made in the past year or two, you should be ok.

not really, most CDroms support 80min cds, and the recent CDRs (in the past 2 years as claw said) will.... you shouldnt really have a prob unless your stuff is old

yeah, my friend has an old p166 system (imagine how old it is), and the CDROM can't read 80 mins cd. but recent CDROM's shouldn't have any problem on that.

Even if your CDROM can't read 80 mins, you can just treat it as 74 mins CD and burn within 74 mins. It should do fine. Even if you pops in a 80mins CD with more than 74 mins, worst of all the CDROM wouldn't be able to read stuff after 74 mins. Before 74 mins should be no problem.

Ok, sounds good. Thanks for the info. Most of the time these CD-Rs would be used with newer CD-ROM drives, and if I ever need to burn a CD to be used on an old CD-ROM drive, I'll just make sure to keep the CD-R under 74 mins.
