The retail had 5 and the oem had 3 IIRC.

EDIT: So if my current pair takes a crap on me... maybe i get the 2nd gens...

You could buy a 73GB U320 10K SCSI for less.

And this would outperform that 320 drive in most consumer applications.. it keeps up with some 15k drives in certian situations

<leans on walker>I remember when an 820MB hard drive cost me $300.00... Of course, I still refuse to pay that for a 73GB hard drive. The speed offered by the drive for me is not worth it. My "slow" 7200rpm drive is fast enough, thank you very much. Less expensive too. A lot less expensive. I am all about capacity before speed. Fast is good, but not $300/73GB worth for me.

I'd be tempted (after Christmas) if the price was right. I was waiting for one of the new 37GB models but I wouldn't pass up a good deal...

Some of us already have SCSI controllers. My CD drive and burner sit very happily on my dual channel U160 controller. I still don't have a SCSI hard drive as the cost difference is just out of this world. If it was a server that needed to stay up, it would be a completely different story!

It does take a bit. It takes even longer when the BIOS (it's not actually a windows issue) has to find both channels seperately. Oh well. I don't reboot my computer that often, so I can definitely live with it!

If you already got a SCSI controller then of course you would check out SCSI drives first.

They have a 5yr warranty according to the WD site. Retail and Bare drive newegg info must be wrong. Unless they changed policy since Oct. 2003.
