Getting a DVD/CDRW in that price range is going to be tough...

When I got mine in December, I bought a Compaq Presario 2700 over an otherwise comparable Dell Inspiron 8100 because I think the Dell keyboards suck.

Go price an Inspiron 8200 at Dell. I did one with a P3-1Ghz, 15" SXGA screen, DVD, 32MB Geforce 2 Go, 256MB RAM for a little under $1500.

here i got one for u

its a sony
tualatin; 830 chipset (enhanced speed step) 16 meg ddr radeon
combo drive

and a low price!
1400 (feel free to shower me w/ compliments)
no floppy though; at that price just buy one 🙂

Tahnks Jejunum I am debating wether to build an XP 2000+ system or get a laptop, since i am going ot collage nect year i think the laptop will be the best solution.

I built an Dell 8100

1 GHz
256 MB ram
20 Gb HD
8x DVD
32 MB GeFroce 2
etc... wiht a port replicator which i could drop and get a CDRW for only

1716 which is not BAD imo, I will look at that link though

heres why i think the sony is better

6.1 lbs travel weight versus like 9.1
830 chipset versus 815
16 meg ddr radeon versus faster but problmatic 32 meg ddr gf2go
combo drive versus fixed dvd

both have 256; both have 20 gig hds;

sony is 315 cheaper :0

my toshiba 3005 s304 has all that stuff

1GHZ
256 MB ram
dvd/cdrw
floppy
geforce2 go
20GB HDD

it's listed on the toshiba site for 1499, but that may not include the floppy.

You're better off building your own rig with monitor for under $1,000 and buying a Pocket PC with WiFi but if you still want to throw away money then read this.

The Toshiba Satellite 5005 runs $1,799 and has the specs you are looking for. P-III 1.1GHz, 30GB, DVD/CD-RW, 512 MB RAM, 15" screen, 16MB GF2Go. It's floppy drive is an external USB drive, but it is included with the laptop, you do not have to buy it separately. Check out Toshiba's site for more details. (www.toshiba.com)

<< dude, you're getting a DELL. >>

But if i were you i would try to see about getting a Latitiude instead of an Inspiron, they are built sturdier
though they are a bit more expensive! Aslo check out thier factory outlet, decent deals there!

Unless you absolutely need the portability (and the risk of your laptop being stolen which is VERY LIKELY) then the desk clearly offers the best bang for your buck esp since you're a gamer.

if you're going to college next year, buy your laptop in the summer/fall. you don't need the portability right now, and you'll just be kicking yourself when you could've gotten a much better system for less. anyway if you're a gamer you'll need the latest hardware when you get into the dorms...he he

I agree with Dethman and would wait till the summer time to buy one. Buy that time you would be able to get a laptop that you want right now for prolly a few hundred dollars less.

Yea but if i wait thinking i could save money then i will just get something better then. I think the only reason i am even thinking about a 2000+ setup is i am afaird i am not gonna be able to do stuff on the laptop that i cna on my desktop. Are there any AMD laptops with a good video card in them??
