7300GT or 7600GS?

Hi.

I can buy either of these two as they're about the same price. However, i'm not sure which is faster. I read a review of the 7600GS performing exactly like the 6600GT. However, later I found a review of a 7300GT outperforming the 6600GT, which makes the 7300 the faster one.

Also, 7300GT has higher clocks, but fewer pipelines.

Is there a review of a direct comparision between those two?

I suggest the 7300GT with DDR3 memory. Much faster and better.

edit - this situation can be similiar to the 6800nu to 6600GT situation. One has more pipes/256bit memory interface but lower clocks compared to the latter, which had less pipes/128bit memory interface but much higher clocks.

The 7300GT stock is fast as a 6600GT. A 7600GS is slightly faster than a 6600GT. But a OCed 7300GT, or ones that cme with DDR3 memory rapes the 7600GS.

Check Newegg for Leadtek 7300GT, 128Mb DDR3. Clocked at 520MHz core and 1400MHz memory. From what I've read there is still headroom for higher clocks. $84 plus shipping. I'd been considering a 7600GS but this looks better. Wish it was available with 256Mb DDR3 but it isn't from Leadtek and this seems to be the only 7300GT, DDR3 available in the states.

well when equipped with ddr2 the 7600gs is better than a 7300gt with ddr2.

they are the samechip, the 7300gt just has 8 pipes and the 7600gs has 12 turnedon.

Fsck it!

I'm going to get a 7900gt - not that much more and all games will play VERY nicely on the 1280x1024 lcd resolution.
Will downgrade from E6400 to E6300 on the new rig to make up for the difference in price, but I play a lot so it should be ok.
Also, i'm hoping that the chips have the same overclocking potential :D

Thanks for the tips guys.

I have a friend who did the exact same thing and is very happy. I mean really, the 6300 is still faster than most A64's at games, so what more could you want?
