I've been doing my research on this and have found what seems like endless suggestions to get this to work but most of the posts are from a year ago now. I've looked at Anandtech, AVSforums, HardOCP, and others. Can anyone provide a quick breakdown of what they are using to get this to work?

I just purchased some HTPC specific gear and am working on getting everything setup to play HD MKV files through Vista Media Center connected to my 1080p 42" Panny plasma.

Specs: AMD X3 8650 Phenom 1
GA-MA78GM-UD2H with ATI HD3200
2GB of Ram
Vista Ultimate 32bit

Codecs I've installed:
AC3 Filter
Haali Media Splitter
Xvid codec
ffdshow tryouts latest version

I'm able to play 720p MKV files via Media Player Classic HC with this setup but I would like to run them through media center so I can stream all my movies there regardless if it's SD or HD content. Please help.

Thanks for the info guys, I'm aware that VLC will play it, MPC will play it too which I prefer over VLC but like I mentioned above the intention here is to use Vista media center for all my video files. I got it working last night so thanks for all the assistance!!!!
